Just thought I would see if any advice out there for sand camping.  Im going to Winchester sand dunes in orgeon with my 02 1500 4x4. I will be towning small trailer that ways about 400 lbs with a raptor 700 and a Peditor on the trail.  Plus gear for two.  I have BF Goodrich AT 265/75/16  DO you think I will need to lower my pressure.  Wont be going all over the place in the dunes just to campsite.  Quads handle the rest.  Any advice would be great.

Im assumming from what I have read to drive in 4hi and only swith to low when I need to.

Thanks

I aired down before I touched the sand (a wise man advised me to do this) I had a trailer with 2 quads on it

are you going on the 28th? My son a a group of folks tht I ride with are going to be at Discovery Point (at the entrance) They'd be glad to meet up with you and show you the sites... We ride there several times a year. Fred M, Avalance, and danlwil are avid Windy Bay riders....

There is a new camping area just past Discovery point on the west side. The other sand camping might be under a bit of water right now....

If you go to the very end... there is camping beyond the southern most parking lot... but it's pretty tricky getting out of there (to go home)  Good sized hill to deal with... lots of fun watching folks dig out of there  :p >:D  You will need to air down

You can ride out from discovery point and they offer full hookups, groceries, etc and are very reasonalbly priced...

If you want Email me... (your PM is not active yet) and I can get you phones to hook up with the guys... if the 28th is your weekend...

Have fun... be safe... It's STEEP AND DEEP!!

I wont be there the 28th but thanks for the offer.  Actually two more friends are going with us and hes got a 4x4 van that wont be that great in the sand so we may just get a spot at discovery if we can.  I know Ill be at discovery on Sept 7th.  Had that reservered for a long time.  We went to coos bay last year and it was a blast.  That was before I had my own quad too.  So of course had to get the raptor 700 and make it to the dunes.  Ill be going out there may 5th 6th and 7th unless we end up just going to moses lake dunes here in WA.  Sand is not as soft there and I have driven out there without airing down but I suppose a cheap compressor is all I need to do just to play it safe.

IF you know anyone that wants to plan on it in the weakend of Sept 7th We have campsite 1 reserved and as of now I only have two maybe three vehicles going so that leaves room for a few more.  I think its like ten tents per sight.  Of course Ill probably order the AV tent by then.  Anyone know how the tent does if the wind picks up?

Do I have to activate my PM?

No, you'll get PM privileges once you hit a certain number of posts (set by the admins but not made public) to make sure you are not the mad spammer  >:D

I have the same size wheels/tires, I've sunk it over 6" in soft sand and hit hard pack. I'd have backed off and aired down but I knew the road.

I thought you were actually seeking advice on how to camp in the sand.  ie, setting up tents, food storage, etc.

Lets talk later about sept 7th... that is not out of the realm of possibilities... just too soon to tell right now.... We have  Weekend Warrior so it makes things a bit simpler...

The AV tent works great... Everytime we've used it its been on the beach and has held up well... I always use the rainfly too....

Have a great time and be careful out there...

Don't let these guys give you a hard time about spammers and such  ... they don't have anything better to do  >:D >:D

Be sure to watch for WA and OR threads for cruises... hopefully we can GTG for at least one this summer... We're thinking Ranier.... OREGON group will do Mt St Helens in June I think
Would love to have some folks from Wa join us....

That sounds good and as for the spamming yea right!!!!  hell it took me long enough to learn how to post.  Thanks for the input on tire pressure to
