Does anyone know if the av is sensitive to scratches on paint i have never had it through a car wash exept touchless and i have numerous scratches in a swirl pattern on the hood also is there anyway of having them buffed out they are not deep but they are noticable

I have to add that I too have the same problem. My truck has a million little scratches and swirls. They only come out if I really wax the heck out of it. I am using a 100 % Pure American Cotton Towel. I have hardly ever taken it to a car wash and when i do it is brushless.

What Gives?!!! :6:

Try this.....go out driving on a bright sunny day....look at all the cars you pass....

I bet everyone has micro marring or swirl marks....

Try it...some are really bad at certain angles look like they were cleaned with brillo pad...

But all paints are subject to swirling if the they are touched with objects harder than the top coat....

Can they be removed? ----- yes!!!!!!

So dude you gonna tell us how to get rid of them or are you going to hold us in suspense forever! >:D

Swirl remover products by 3m, Meguiars, Mezerna, Mothers, Scratch X, etc etc...... tons of products but each is for a certain defect.....and use comes with practice...I would say go find some 3M Swirl MArk Remover or Meguiars #9 swirl mark remover and try a few areas by hand.......

Either elbow grease or a random orbital buffer to start.....

If you are good and I mean very good then a rotary buffer would take no time but yo then have the chance of doing more damage.....

I also suggest checking out the Meguiars website and watch the videos on the random orbital bufer they have and also the e-book from Autopia as they bothe explain how to remove swirls.

If I do this(3m,etc...) - what Zaino steps should I do after?

Z1 then Z5/Z2 on the spot?

Clean area with alcohol to remove any waxes and oils.....then zaino like it is fresh clean paint.....the abrasives will remove any Zaino...but those products will leave behind wax, oils and fillers.........so depending on area either DAWN wash entire truck or just use alcohol in squirt bottle on spots......

I don't know if it removed them or just covered them up so they can't be seen anymore, but two coats of Zaino F5 and I have no more swirl marks. Just plain brilliant and DEEP shine!

has anyone used meguiars scratch x for scratches and swirls and what were the results im particularly interest in the results anyone has had trying to remove scratches

I had a toll gate drop on my hood (Forest Green) and leave several scratches. Used a sample of Meguiars Scratch X I got at a car show last year and it removed all signs of the marks. Can't see or feel any signs of the scratches that were on the crown of the hood and along the right side hood ridge. I highly recommend it for scratches you can feel. I think it is a little aggressive for swirl marks and would steer you towards a swirl remover instead. Only so much clear coat before you get into the paint. Hope this helps....

Does anyone know if those orbital buffers really do a good job or are they just expensive hand applicators?

Works well on scratches......do not use on swirl marks at it is a bit to abrasive for this and well expensive too.....

First off.....all waxes and sealants shoudl be applied by hand......orbital buffers should only be used with abrasive products.

Second .....The cheapos from Wally world and other places....well they can help and do some help with Swirl mark remover...but they will never be awesome as they do not have the power to keep the pad moving when you apply pressure....

for the serious detailing nut case (like myself) I suggest getting Porter Cable's Orbital sander/buffer Model #7424SP, 7424, 7334, 7335, 7336.....these are all basically the same machine but have different head sizes...I prefer the largest which is the 6"......

For this tool check out www.coastaltool.com They explain it well and have great pricing.

now after you buy this you need pads and stuff check out CMA AKA www.properautocare.com they have a Porter Cable pad kit ......
