Silverstar fog lamps burnt out after one week!!!! Got my fogs 893s and put them in on monday then on Friday night I turned them on and I was like something doesn't look right...got out and looked pass side bulb out, checked wires and all but when I pulled the bulb out is was blck and blown. Damn I said and put my GE 893 back in so not to look stupid. Sat night I look and my Driver side Silverstar fog was out same deal..black and burnt out. Damn again and now I am back to my GE 893s. And it is a night and day diffrence bnetween the Silverstars and the GE or Wagner fogs. Anyone else have this problem?? I don't feel like spending another 45 dollars on fog lights if they are only going to lasta week.

haven't had a problem with mine, but I'm wondering if you accidentally touched the bulbs when putting them in? When installing mine I wore rubber gloves to prevent an accidental finger print getting on the bulb lens.

I went to 4 auto supplies this last weekend looking for them. No body had them (893st). I ordered from Sylvania's web site. I really don't want to hear they don't last very long. They cost too much for that. :8:

I have the silverstars in my low beams for quite a while now with no problems.

AVid i did the same with ordering from Silvania thats why I am so POed.

TNAV Yes I wore surgical gloves to put them in.

Can't understand what happened.

i was thinking the same thing.

One of my SilverStar 9006 burned out tonight after only having them for a little over a year. I'll probably go with a different brand when I upgrade again.

I guess this answers my complaint:

What is the life expectancy of SilverStar?

* The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the driver?s use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions.

finally picked a set of the 880's. hope they do not blow out that soon. they should at least last as long as i have been looking for them.

Heat is the killer in these applications. The 880's are lower wattage and will produce less heat.

Go with the 880 Xenon and you will be fine.

Order them off ebay from Global Premier much cheaper than Sylvania's.

I was browsing thru the sylvania website. I found out that the average rated life for the silver star fog light bulbs is only 100 hrs. Some bulbs are less and some a little more but the average seems to be about 100 hrs. Considering the price we pay for them 100hrs is nothing. If you do a lot of night driving your only looking at a few months if your lucking. Here's the link to the info. Click on silver star once the page opens and a chart should pop up.

Same thing happened to my right side silver star fog light. I called silvania and they informed to return the defective blub and a new would be sent to me. I used a towel to install they to make sure there was no contact.

Welcom to the club lvelez. (y) I've had mine in just over a month now (SIlverstar Fogs) and still going strong. Keeping my fingers crossed !

I too purchased the 893s last month directly from Sylvania. I noticed about a week ago that one of the bulbs had already gone out, upon later inspection, it did not blow, rather the filament actually broke. Anyway, I emailed the lady who sent me the first bulbs and she said mail the broken one in and she would replace it. Well, that was cool and all but still a hastle getting to the post office due to the holidays. Well, when I got home from work on Friday, there was a package that contained 2 new bulbs. I was very impressed that she had sent me 2 bulbs and I had not even sent the broken one yet. Just from this interaction with Sylvania I will continue to purchase their products. So if you have bulbs that blew out in a rediculus amount of time, mail them back, you may get lucky...

just installed my S.S.'s today. i used latex glove to make sure i did not mess up the outer layer of the bulb with oil from my hands. there was one occasion when the harness slipped out of my hand and touched the uncovered hand for about a nano-second. i hope this will not affect the life of the bulb. :6:

Bought my SilverStar Fogs 893st's and they only lasted 2 months! I will not buy SilverStars again - any suggestions on an alternative fog besides originals that will last at least a year?

Sad but true, my passenger side SilverStar 893 blew this morning on the way to work :6: I will be calling Sylvania CS in a bit to see if they will send me a replacement.

Same here.....after having them in for about 7 weeks the passenger side has blown. Was going to replace it until I started reading this thread. I think I'll look for something else to use in the 37 watt range.
