I installed these per the directions, turned 'em on and...they have a nice slightly blue white color but...They don't seem as bright as the standard Halogen bulbs. What gives??? Anyone???
Oh, by the way...I found 'em at AutoZone for $19.95 a piece and they have rebate forms for $10.00 back on a pair... :2: :B:

That's interesting. My observation is that they made a noticeable difference: it's easier to see things on the road, the pavement is lit up better, signs on the side of the road really stand out, and cars in front of me are lit up more than before. Others have had similar good experiences with them.

Maybe you're expecting too much from them? They are not HID bulbs, but then they don't cost nearly as much.

A general discussion of the SilverStars, including the price, has been going on here.

I am with SS. When we had our first Minnesota get-together, I was the only guy with SilverStars installed. They were clearly whiter and brighter than stock halogen. I have heard your observation from others and I don't understand how these don't make a noticeable difference. The color tempearture is WAY higher than stock. In fact, they aren't too far from HID color temperature.

Attached is the color temperature chart from the Sylvania SilverStar web site.

Seeing this hard data makes it hard to believe they aren't better than stock. I would recommend checking your beam alignment as it is possibly too high/ too low. Mine was off and I couldn't tell until the SilverStars were installed. I noticed right away that the right lamp was high.

I have installed the Lows a month and 1/2 ago- Love them.
As of yesterday I placed the Highs in as well. Now I am getting the RD Controller for all four on. Plus Fogs!

I am finding them to be highly effective and a more pure white light. Very impressed hope you find them as good too?

Later all..... :B: :B:

I was wondering if you had made it back to work Jamie.

Yep, I only work about 2 miles from that Chili's location. I even got to test out my horn on a broad who decided not to yield to oncoming traffic as she made her right turn on red!

If I recall, the four headlight and fog controllers are two seperate things.

Instead of the R&D four headlight controller, consider this as it's (almost) free!

I'm going to research a variation of this. I have to look at the wiring diagrams, but it should be possible to do the same thing by tapping into wires under the dash. The benefit to that is you don't have to worry about weatherproofing the connections, and it would make it easier to put in a switch like I'm considering (no need to run the switch wire through firewall.)

I think I know what the problem is!! I just recently have purchased the plasma glow head lights that have a 5000k rating (1000 greater the sliverstar) I was also set back that things did not appear better when I was driving home in Atlanta, but when I got to my back roads wow things did look better! I looked at it and believe the issue becomes the street lights which around here are that daylight orangish color. Well the old halogen light but out a very simular hue and complemented the the street lights so it was adding more. Now theBluish/white light that this things give off seem to fight that orange light which makes it at times hard to see them in very well lite areas! I also thinks it takes a couple of days for your brain to process the new color and identify it when you are driving! So that is my two cents on it!

Maybe that's it...I remember when Halogen Lights were the option and we thought THAT light was white!!! HAH!!! Compared to sealed beams, yea but now!
Near HID>>> :B:

I just put the silverstars in tonight ?and they are VERY NICE ?much brighter

Just installed the Silverstars and they are awesome!! Big difference... Replaced the fogs the next day as they looked sickly :D:

I noticed the same thing, right side beam (passenger side) seems higher. Should I adjust this myself?? If I do, which side should be adjusted?? Is is adjusted by the one long screw up top??

Thanks,

GMAN

A couple of weeks ago one of the local tv stations newscast ran a feature about the new headlights, and if they were somehow "dangerous". They rounded up a few chicken little types for sound bites . The funny part was that it was almost identical to the same hand-wringing and reaction when the halogens came out years ago making the sealed beams look dim.
