Hi everybody:
Today I was driving my AV on the NJ Turnpike when my yougest son started questioning me about the power on the AV and was asking me to take it to the max so I did but when I reached 100 mph I felt like if the trany slipped or went into neutral (feeling), however when I dropped the speed a little and attempted to accelerate it, it was fine has anybody experienced this with there AV, is it normal for safety reasons.

congrats you have met that little chip chevy puts in our trucks to keep you from going over the tire rated speed. really you were going 98.6 mph when it kicked in but yeah i forgot the word they call the little chip but i'm sure somebody else with post it's name soon...

>:D Heavy D, you met the rev limiter/speed limiter....not a good feeling if you do not know it is there.
It is normal though.
Put the HPP3 on it and it will still do the same thing to you at 128, makes you say OH S---

Yes my friend that's the General's way of keeping you honest...but don't fear.....aftermarket tuning devices like the above mentioned will take care of that little pesky feature.......this way you can strap on some road hugging rubber to carefully handle those speeds... :B:

Go to the the Performance Mods section and read my posts regarding the SuperChips Max-Tuner for the 8.1 (they also deal with the SB but it's a different part #). The real advantage to the SC vs HPP3 lies in the COMPLETE re mapping of the entire FI, Ignition, Shift Points, Etc, rather than just WOT.

Hi West
I'M sorry for ticking you off I knew what I was doing and I just wanted to test my AV, so please if you have any such negative comments please keep them to your self and do not post them, I do not think that anybody would join this club to be insulted.

I believe in this forum, a sensible way to vent your anger toward one person is to Private Message them. I am no moderator and wouldn't want that responsibility, but I think I speak for all when I say, "Can't we all just get along.".

Use Private Message to scream at one person.

Wiki is right. I'm all for doing a little showing off for the boy. If he gets scared you back it down. If not, press on. This is all taking into account that you are in a safe environment to push these limits however! I probably wouldn't be doing it on any interstate due to pavement inconsistencies and LEs waiting to get you, but I have done this up near our lake where you have an unobstructed view on a 2-lane highway with no side access. Any stretch you can see at least 2 miles is OK as long as I can get to my desired speed and slow back down before I get to the corners I'm OK.

westex39, the "Are you nuts comment" was OK but let's not start name calling. I'm not going to say that hitting 100 is safe, but in a familiar setting where you know the terrain and know you have unobstructed access in that area, you should be OK. We all also know our stock tires will not be safe at speeds sustained there anyway. Are you putting your son (or other traveler) in harm's way? Sure but I would rather be the guy to show him 100 than his 16 year-old first time driver friend in a rusted out POS with balding tires.

My .02

I certainly wouldnt go 100 MPH in my AV with or with out children. ?I have only gone 100MPH once in my life and that was in a 1979 Plymouth Volare...on a rural country road...17 yrs old...now that was stupid! ?I've been on the NJ turnpike...100mph...really isnt all that unusual, especially those expensive sports cars. ?And whats the difference setting your AV at 75mph on cruise? ?I bet you were more alert at 100mph with your kid sitting next to you than I am on a road trip with cruise on and my two girls. ?I dont support or condem you for doing what you did. ?I have been dissed on this site b4 and it only takes one to post a negative comment to get the ball rolling. ? Hopefully it wont keep rolling.

well said, Jamie! I'd just like to add my .02.

Anyone whose ever said they have never done something like that, ought to look in the mirror. We have all been 16 before, sure we knew everything there was to know, not listenning to the advise of people who really did know, like our parents. (But they only knew because they themselves had done it!) This goes for more than just driving in an unsafe manner. BTW, speeding to me is not unsafe, well not nearly as unsafe as irratic driving, weaving in and out of traffic, etc... (Nowadays, it's more unsafe to actually be driving the speed limit!) 100mph, unsafe, sure.....but I'll bet dad looked really cool to his son. so too wrap this up:

undo where on the mechanicals for speeding - $500
Ticket obtained for speeding - $500
Bonding time with Son, potentially thwarting future dicipine problems while making Dad look REALLY COOL -
PRICELESS

Don't do it too often, as Sons have a tendency to do as I do not as I say.

I can't believe you were doing a 100 mph with your youngest son in the vehicle with you. ?Are you nuts?
It's idiots like you that kill innocent people. :8:

I am a moderator on this board but in another forum. If this was in my forum I would've deleted your post and sent you to the penalty box. :3:

Please keep things civilized.

Had to hit the limiter on mine once too. . just because.

Everything in life is a risk . . some things greater, some things less. We each get to choose how much risk we want to take with our decisions every day. Are their consequences to our choices . . . sure are, are there benefits to risk . . often yes.

Indeed there are some guidelines established by the laws of our country to try to limit the risks to ourselves and others . . . the consequences of which become obvious if one continues to push the limits.

I try not to be too critical of other's choices . . . while something someone else might do may offend me, it's very likely that something that I do may offend him equally. . . .

This board's pretty good . . . we haven't made it too hard on the moderators. ;D Let's keep it that way.

To all you guys out there I just want to say thank you for your feedback, it's been great, as for west I understand his concern, like one of you said comments like his should have been made private, I made sure that the environment that I was in was safe the only thing I had to worry about at the moment was for the police. If it wasn't for this website I probably would have been at my dealer right now wasting my time
Thanks again everybody

100 isn't bad if you are just keepin' up with traffic, right? ;)

I don't think he mentioned the age of his son. Only that it was his youngest. The 'kid' could be in his 20s or 30s for all we know.

Is the limiter there to midigate lawsuits from people rolling them at 150mph?

I've never owned a car that wouldn't do 100 until my Av! I guess I'll have to get the chip to up the limiter :).

As for how wise it might be to push the limits of a vehicle, it's human nature, especially for motor heads like me, to want to know what a given vehicle is capable of. I propose that there are a LOT more people killed driving drunk and/or tired than there are speeding. I know when I'm doing 100+ in a car, I'm sure as hell paying attention!

My 2500 only has 400 miles on it but I hit the limitter already. When you buy something new, you have to try it out. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure the person who wasn't happy never had a bike or I'm sure they would have done much faster than that. My wife when I met he :)r never went over 100 mph before so Itook her out one night in my dads 928S4 and was doing 150 before she said slow down. Some people like speed and some don't. That person I'm sure doesn't.

Well, I have not YET taken my AV to 100MPH but Im glad that I found out about this before I tried. That would have scared the bijizzas out of me. And even though I may not plan on doing 120, I still want to be able to should I ever dicide to. You never know when you may need it.

Just a side note, I did rent a red 1999 Corvette last year and I got that up to 135. I wanted to find a place that I could do 150 "safely" but I couldnt find anyplace within a reasonable distance. That car didn't have a rev-limiter, go figure...?

I forgot what that feeling was. Last time I had GM tell me how fast I could go was back in my 1997 suburban. So now 3 trucks & 3 hypertech's later, I am free to go to 110 as I do just about every Sunday Morning on my way to work. (Without my wife complaining)

I like how u described the limiter, everyone I know says it feels like they are running out of gas, which is how I remember it back in '96.

Good thing for this site as you stated, I would hate to have to describe to the service manager about the 100mph.
;)

Pegtech,,,,,,,,,,,Know how ya feel. I brought my AV in and the service manager had a cadillac Deville waiting for me to drive, the one with the 4 exhaust tips in the back. As i walked to it i had a thought >:D >:D >:D
300 hp Northstar >:D >:D
Limiter shut me down at 108, bummer. Thought it would have been higher with the rubber it had on it and all.
Oh well it moved good up to that point, which i will have to remember when on the highway and see one of the snotty guys on my rear(not all caddy owners are snooty, just the ones that think they own the road because they spent.......humm not much more for their caddy)............Bye Bye is all i can say, unless they make a HPP3 for the Caddy, then i would be in trouble.... >:D

Fastest I've gone in the Av is 85, but my T-Bird has seen 140, give or take. On GM's property, no less. ;)
