I have owned the Avalanche since it was a newborn and have taken great care of her. I just had the 60K service performed and all of a sudden I'm losing oil and the truck is spewing grey smoke when it is started after sitting still for more than an hour or so. I've read posts here concerning oil loss and I will have the PCV valve and seals checked next week...but I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything the dealer would have done during the 60K service that could have brought this on?

Maybe they put the incorrect PCV valve in if they replaced it.....??

I wouldn't think any routine / maintenance type service would expose a head gasket.

What exactly did they do (outside of what the manual calls for @ 60K)?

All they did other than the 60K service was to recharge the AC system and replace a leaky AC hose. I don't think they would have touched the PCV valve that may be causing a lot of the leaks?

what I was trying to say was there is no telling what a service department will sell you for a "60K service" as compared to the relatively few things that the maintenance schedule actually calls for. I'd probably start with looking at the service ticket and see exactly what they did.

According to the receipt, they did replace the PCV valve! They probably used the wrong one or didn't apply it right. Now I just have to figure out how to kindly tell them that. Thanks for the tip...hopefully this is the problem.
Chris

instead of kindly asking them that, why not start with asking them why they changed it in the first place?

Last time I changed one of those (not on an AV) it was kinda hard to screw up :cautious:
