Anybody rigged up a hoist for their Snug Top?

I am looking into buying a "Hoist-A-Top" hoist that is designed for a Jeep Wrangler's hard top. I am going to modify the straps to fit the Snug Top and use it.

Looking for alternatives or advice from somebody that has tried this method.

The Wrangler hard top and the Snug Top are about the same weight but center of gravity is a bit different.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

i thought a Jeep Wrangler top would be lighter. would you need to remove it often enough that you have to have a hoist?

I do take it off about a half dozen times a year and plan on storing it in the hoist system with hangers suspended from the ceiling of my garage.

I think the weights are pretty close.

Has anyone used the Snug Top "Top Gun" on a Silverado? How much do these run? Pros/Cons?

I did what you are thinking of doing with my snugtop. I made a hoist with a hand crank like you find on a boat trailer and mounted it to a couple of angle irons. I'll try to get pics later on this week.

Icecop,

Sorry its taken so long to get a pic to you. I keep forgetting to get a picture when I'm at home.

I looked at the Top gun for my last truck, as I liked the look of it, but ended up getting a Raider Nomad II for convienence....

With Snugtops, the windows that "pop" open are at the front of the bed, with the Raider top they are ar the back of the bed, so to open the windows on the snugtop you had to climb inside, were the one I got, open the back glass, and pop open the winows.... also the Raider at the time was a $2000 shell.... I got it for $1000.... so that played a big part as well....

Snugtop makes good quality product, just for the price, and the extras, and the window factor, Raider is how I went.... just like anything you buy.... look at how you will use it and what the pros and cons of every product are for you.

I bolted two angle irons together and placed two pulleys on either end. A simple boat trailer winch was bolted to one end. You can get one for about $20 online from Overtons or any other watersports/boat retailer. Four Eyebolts were mounted on the underside of the irons. This is where the blue cargo straps attach after wrapping them around the tube bar on the snugtop. Initially I was worried about how sturdy the tube bars and their attachments were, but they seem to be pretty solid. The big yellow strap was placed after the canopy was hoisted up for additional support (although I don't think it was neccessary). Let me know if you have any question.

Thanks for the pics. I just got back on here and saw them. You are pretty clever. I am going to see what I can do.

While I got you here. Did you have any problems with the nuts stripping out when putting the top back on? I stripped out one of the nuts/bolts when putting it back on a couple of months back and am not sure what I am going to do to fix it.

Thanks.

Haven't put mine back on yet. It's still very warm out here in CA. Thanks for the warning though. I wish I had a good fix for you. Brent

Unfortunately I just sold one of these less than a week ago for $150. I think that it had been used about three times. My brother-in-law had a Jeep and bought it for that. They traded the Jeep after six mo for something else and wanted to "just get something out of it".

Bottom line is I think he got it off of Ebay for around $250 which is less than asking from the Host-a-Top site.
