I read on another forum that GM do indeed plan on bringing a Silverado SS in production for 03'.....from what was said it would sport a 6.0L powerplant, and stick to the pavement via AWD system....

I don't know if anyone else heard any rumors...but if you did please do tell...... :) :) :)

Hey gandolph, don't worry about the horses. Theres a million things that the Avy can do that the SS can't. Off Roadin for one. Anyway, the SS is a standard 5.3 worked to the bone. You have the 8.1. Work that to the bone and guess what? You'll have the very first Chevy Avalanche 2500 HD SS.

They'll need 500+horses to beat the Dodge SRT! Too bad chevy dosen't have an 8.1 liter V-10.

The question is are we to assume this will be a supercharged SS or are we looking at very fast n/a?..

If you look at the websites that I posted you will see that for each SS listed the specs are different for each. I think there is one common theme and that it will be low to the ground and have a lot of HP's. I read somewhere that it is to compete with the Ford SVT Lightning. THis Silerado SS has been in Concept since 1999. Why release it now?

I think chevy is starting to feel a little heat from it's buyers and their desire to see the Silverado SS debut....being they are doing so well in earnings this first quarter...I wouldn't be surprised if now wasn't the perfect time to lay this on everyone.....

Car and Driver says 345 naturally aspirated ponies through an all wheel drive system outta the 6.0 litre...looks cool but I Love my Av!!! :B:

Silversport; the information from Car & Driver is correct. I just verified it on the GM website. They claim it will be available in all 50 states and Canada during the first quarter of 2003. Here is what the GM website has to say;
Silverado SS highlights performance

Extending its rich "Super Sport" heritage, Chevy is introducing a 2003 Silverado SS, which will be available in all 50 states and Canada beginning in the first quarter of 2003.

Dating back to the 1961 Impala, Chevy SS vehicles have provided on-road enthusiasts with outstanding performance, great handling and sleek, muscular designs. The Silverado SS is a contemporary expression of Chevy muscle that responds to enthusiasts who have migrated to full-size pickups. The Silverado SS, created from a 1500 extended-cab short bed, adds fun and excitement without forfeiting Silverado's proven strengths and capabilities.

A standard high output LQ9 version of the Vortec 6000 V8, with 345 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, provides Silverado SS with exhilarating off-line acceleration and relaxed cruising. It mates to a Hydra-Matic 4L85-E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, whose 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear contribute to the truck's impressive performance.

A standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD) viscous-coupled transfer case provides exceptional on-road, wet or dry pavement handling. It requires no driver intervention, automatically and continuously transferring torque from slipping wheels to those with a firmer grip.

A unique Z60 high-performance chassis package, including Silverado's largest-ever 20-inch wheel and tire combination, provides exceptional road holding and cornering capability. A 2-inch lower ride height, 18mm wider track and P275/55R20 Goodyear Eagle radials provide exceptional stability.

The exterior of the SS shows it is no ordinary Silverado. With its trim, aggressive stance, monochromatic color scheme and specially styled aluminum wheels, Silverado SS conveys performance from any angle. The custom interior is Dark Charcoal and equipped with uplevel LT trim and leather bucket seats with special "SS" embroidered headrests. The Silverado SS will be offered in Black, Arrival Blue Metallic or Victory Red. The SS appearance is refined and dramatic - an instant classic. (More information is available at http://media.gm.com/chevy.)

Will this Silverado be able to compete with the Lightning and the soon to be Dodge SRT-10 Ram......I think so, but it will need a boost....literally... :B:

I like... A nice yellow one would look great next to my Av ;D

I still say bring the blower....why not just throw a vortech supercharger on there for laughs....now that would be no laughing matter.... ;D

I work in Oshawa Car assembly, right beside the truck plant. They have been building them for about 2 months in limited numbers.I haven't seen any that look like the pic posted earlier.they look similar but not nearly as bold! I will have a look around the plant over the next couple of days and see what I can find out. They get ugly about us taking pics(its against the law(gm law) and could cost you your job)but the engeneers drive them around some times and I might be able to get a shot of one on the street! From what I have seen I wouldn't trade my Av for one!

Well that's reassuring, I guess.....I've always been tempted to drive high horsepower.... ;D
