Sometimes The Best Mod Is Not To Mod!

I was racking my brain yesterday trying to think of a mod to hold shopping bags from flying all around the truck while I'm peeling around town...

I went to BestBuy to get the NJ Devils Championship DVD, and a couple of other goodies. ?I usually place stuff like that on the passenger side floor. ?After I ran over a tree, or a little old lady (I forget which), the bag started rolling all around the floor, emptying the contents all over the place. ?I started thinking about all kinds of hooks, velcro attach points, and other doodads...

Then:

:0:

Put the bag on the floor in the back, behind the drivers seat. ?Put the handles of the bag over the seat belt receiver, and put on your seat belt - Voila! ?Bag holder! ?BTW, it works even if you don't put on your seat belt!

I was kidding about the old lady

It was an old man ? >:D

Kinda cool idea.......except I use the loop through method with the rear center seatbelt/////kinda loop it though everything and that snap it in.......

When I transport PCs I sit it in the seat and "belt it in".

I guess you could fab up some kind of holder if you really wanted to mod. ;D

Yakmar - keep up the great sense of humor- and for those groceries, get a cargo net, stretch it across the back and hook to both sides hooks protrusions and nothing will go anywhere even after hitting pedestrian speed bumps.

You know it's a funny thing when we want to mod things to support a habit or something we think should be and is not.
I too had a problem with things rolling around. Actually had a bowling ball rolling around and thought to myself " I'm gona need to make something to hold that ball before it wreaks something!" Then I found the "built in" cargo hook in the front of the bed area right behind the midgate. Wow! If I hook the handle of the bowling ball bag to this it's not going to roll, Then It all hit me... I could hook my shopping bags to the hooks by the tailgate, they would stay and not spill and the best part!!! It's not even in the cab of the Av...

You don't think those Engineers in Detroit planned this do you? Naa...

Red Av - I transport PCs all the time, but I have leather seats. I don't put stuff like that on my seats!

Colonel, sir: I do have a cargo net, but only use it for when I have more than 3 or 4 bags... What I was talking about in the first post was when you only have one bag. I don't keep my cargo net in place, as I'm frequently in and out of the tailgate.

Great post AJ. I haven't had the funds yet to do to much to my Av, but I find myself loving it every day just like it is. There are so many things to like even before doing anything!

That's true, I have cloth seats. But if I had leather I would keep some kind of towel or blanket ready to use.

When the Mid-deck plans get here I am going to work in some tie down points that are easy to reach from the doors.

This is a good suggestion, AJ. Thanks. I'm having one of those "Why the heck didn't I think of that" moments.

Now perhaps you have an equally good suggestion for hauling one or two propane tanks for my grill back from Home Depot? Right now I loop bunge cord around the tank(s) and hook it to the tiedowns, but a couple of times they have broken free. I really hate to have full propane tanks rolling around the bed of the truck.

I have also had chlorine jugs for the pool tip over on me and now part of my mat is a lighter shade of gray.

Don't forget about Z66 Butch's swing-out cargo box...looks like a possible solution for some of these grocery and propane tank issues to me.

I had thought of that, Rich. But I'm looking for something in the free - $25 range.

Thanks for the plug, RichUF. You can find a link to the Swing'N Load box HERE. I now have a ANIMATED picture of the Swing 'N Load up although it is a little jerky, you can see how it works!

The only thing I have done for stuff like that is just what you mention - bungees around the tiedowns. Maybe try using more bungees? I use two for my tool container - made from a 5 gallon paint container. One at the top, and one at the bottom.
