I have a 2002, Z-71, had my first flat and was surprised to find a firestone tire on a black steel rim, as my spare! I'm wondering if this is what I should have. the Z-71 package I purchased has the crome wheels and goodyear tires. I went to my dealer and he said that chevy puts anything they have on stock as a spare. IS THAT RIGHT? if so where do i go to get the right tire. thanks jeff

Jeff, I have an '03 Z66 which comes with the same rim/tire combination as the Z71, 17" with Goodyear 265/70's. The spare is a Firestone 16" on a black steel rim. I don't remember the exact size, think they are 75's, so the outside diameter is the same. Enjoy your Av and don't worry, it's normal.

Has anyone tried putting a 17" wheel and tire in the spare tire spot? I have an extra one and would love to use it as a spare if it would fit.

Just think of it as a doughnut. I'm not sure if you can get a 17" wheel and tire under there anyway. :B:
The outide diameter of the two tire/rim combinations are the same because the 17" is a 70 series and the 16" is a 75 series. The only difference is that the 17" is a little wider, so in my own little mind I think it would fit, but I,m no expert, only a Kajun AV owner. ;D

Someone here has fit a 35" tire underneath. I can't remember who it is right now. He is from out west though.

I unfortunately had to use my spare today. It was covered in mud. Yea.

I have a 35" tire on my spare steel rim, fits fine as long as you have an exhaust that follows the stock route

I put AR Mojave Teflon with BFG All Terrain 265/75/16 on my '02 1500 4x4 recently and got a free new GM alloy 16" for my spare that's almost a match painted black. There is little or no difference in the size between 265/75/16 and 265/70/17
