I got sick of pulling the mid-deck section in and out of the bed, so I decided to mod it so I could store it behind the back seat.? It also allows me to access the bed through the medgate without removing it.

next

notice my nice little wooden spacer (just a 2x4 and chunks of a 4x4) to keep large items that I am hauling from pushing up against the third brake area by holding them off the midgate.

Sorry, I have been on the road (as usual)?

The cut was approximately 13 inches from the very back.? I just wanted it to be far enough onto the back of the seat so it wouldn't try to fold up if the dogs stepped on it.? They (my dogs) spent over ten hours on it this weekend and never had any problems.? Then just folded it up and put the seats back!? ?(y)

As for the hinges, I just went to Lowe's and got three two pack of 3 inch hinges.? I was looking at the the piano type hinges, but they looked a little too flimsy and I wasn't sure if you could cut them to fit, since they were all too long for the sections.

so when you gonna help with mine?? ???

Well, if I wasnt out of town until September, we could do it soon.

On another note, that is the fourth mid-deck I have carpeted, so I dont want to do another for awhile, but I will help.  I originally made that one (before the folding) about 1.5 years ago.  Then for Christmas last year (actually Jan-Feb this year) I made two more for my in-laws, they have matching pearl white EXTs.  At that time I tore this one apart to add the hinges and it took me almost 6 months to get around to finishing it.

What thickness plywood did you use? I was thinking of using OSB but it is kind of thin and hard to find a good straight one at Home Depot.

I finally finished...? I used a air craft grade piano hinge (another perk of the job)

Looks good dpreacher, you will be glad you got this done before you carpeted them.?
Sorry for delaying your mod.?

Update: Dogs spent five hours (each way) on it this weekend and it worked great.? Then I folded them to get into the Mid-deck during loading of all of our baby shower gifts.

:woohoo:? ITS GREAT NOT HAVING TO REMOVE THEM TO OPEN THE MID_DECK!!!!!! :woohoo:

Hi, I know this thread is a...bit old, but I have a question. I made a mid deck over the summer and am just getting around to carpeting now. First attempt last night: major fail. I had big gaps on most inside corners. Really crappy looking. Any tips on carpeting something like this? Like where to cut the slits, what angle, etc? Thank you.

When doing curves or corner, I cut just enough to allow the carpet to fold over before stapling.
Sometimes I test the fit and cut a little more if needed.
For the curves, I cut the slits, radiating out from the curve. So when the fold is make.
The flip side of the fold look like a petal that is open.
Hope that helps.

ok, thank you. Do you glue the front and then work on folding around? and the biggest problem I have right now is the small 90 degree inside corner. I didnt have enough material so as not to have a gap right in the middle of the corner.  Im guessing I didnt slit it right. thanks for your help.
