I am the proud owner of a new 2003 Z66. I got a heck of a deal on a new one. But, the one I got does not have the drivers convienence package. Do not need the adjustable pedals but I would like to have the steering wheel mounted controls. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy that from GM. Also, would the BCM have to be reprogramed for all the extra features that this would enable me to use.
Have had mine only 2 weeks now and I love it. Already have installed vent visors and a bugsheild.
You have got a great site here, only one problem with it, with all these mods everyone is doing, I can see myself spending plenty of time in the garage doing some of these, lol.

Subject changed to reflect 2003 topic in order to differentiate it from the existing thread about the 2002 kit from JP Customs --brmiller

Welcome Pewter Z-66, you are right, I spend many nights in the garage, but believe me, these guys all mean well and the small mods are well worth it for little money. Try the new mountain decals for a new look on the rear, view the testor paint pen sight for neat tricks and then sit back and enjoy.

Hi pewterZ66 and welcome to the club.

I know what you mean about the steering wheel controls. Except when I asked my dealer about the D.I.C. I was told that it would work without the steering wheel controls they tried to tell me that I had to use the key fob.

Any way there is a member by the name of Jason who is working on an after market set of controls for the 03's. He's already got the ones for the 02's. You can check out his site and contact him at JP Customs

Here is the best of my knowledge.
With a 2002 you do not have the option/ability to use the GM steering controls as much of the brains for the system is in the dash.
With a 2003 I believe you can add the factory controls as you have the required 'base'. I have not priced it out as it is not an option for me. I am trying to save (meaning stop buying other mods) up for the JP kit to put on my 2002

We're working on the kit for the 2003's right now. It's been delayed because some components have been restricted to just product and not to wholesale.

I'm hoping to have the kit ready sometime this summer.

So far, it is looking really good. Still in R&D about all the options.

The 2002 kit is available and can be seen on our website as well as the Partner's page here.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. I knew if I posted here I would get a response, am looking forward to doing many more mods to my baby.

So, having never pulled a steering wheel or disabled an air bag, is this a difficult installation? After the controls are installed is there wiring back to the radio or are the wires already there?

Pulling the wheel and airbag is easy.

There's nothing back there that would give you any indication there would be steering wheel controls. No wires just hanging there. GM saves $$$ whenever they can.

OK, this shall be my next mod then. Wish me luck. I'll take photos.
