OK folks, here it is.? Had a few requests for info.? My camera pooped and lost the pics, so I 'borrowed' a few from Mox and Redleg.?

I bought amps, subs and the midgate from subthump.com.? After sharing many emails with Steve at subthump, his knowledge of the products he makes and sells is outstanding, never once did he leave me guessing on any question asked.? And as someone else mentioned in another thread, his response time is quick.?

I installed 2 of these midgates in Nashville last weekend.? Even with me being a social butterfly and not sharing my train of thought with my helper during both installs, they were both completed fairly quick.? Both were installed at night with little difficulty.? I think that with 2 people and instructions, the install of the subs in the midgate, then the midgate in the Av can be accomplished well under 2 hours without rushing.

First, the specs:

*All hardware needed to install this box is included.? Easy to follow instructions also included.
rear glass storage is lost.? ?
*Speakers are not included, but this box can be ordered "loaded"? with eD subs as shown.? See "loaded" table below.
all our midgate boxes are sealed boxes.? no ports no slots, please do not inquire about ported.
*These will be produced in very limited numbers.

since Steve at subthump is an eD dealer, I assumed that the box was tested and designed around these subs so I went with eD everything...subs and amps.? IMO, this box will easily compete with the JL boxes for way less money.?

The Show and Shine competition in Nashville finished off with a stereo contest... the finalists were 3 JL boxes, 4 custom installs and my subthump box.? Considering the box was installed hours before the contest and tuning wasn't complete, I think it held its own during the contest.

Steve also told me last week that they're working on a padded glass storage bag that will mount to the side of the bed.

pics to follow...

first the midgate:

its fully functional. ?with the bumpstops installed, it will even play in the down position without hitting the seats. ?I'll get pics of this tomorrow and add them to this thread tomorrow. ?

I had sold my midgate before my purchase, so I didn't have the top mounting hardware needed to complete the install. ?even without the clips on top, its secure enough to stay in place with no worries. ?the instructions for the install are simple to understand and complete. ?

the only thing not included with the subs/midgate (bought seperately) was the wiring directions for the subs. ?took us a few minutes and the assistance of google to figure out how to wire two 4 ohm, dual voice coil subs to be 2 ohm loads each.

I was pretty impressed with the fact that it worked well with the bedslide.
good point, smitty... forgot all about that.  the bedslide slides right under the enclosure of the midgate.  Those pics will have to wait til I get the slide unloaded.

as for the amps, I mounted them under the seat.  I went with 3 amps (1 mono for the subs and two 2 channel for the doors)  If you have 2 amps, one mounted on each side and not one in the middle, the function of the midgate will not be lost.  I lost a little function of the seat because of having an amp mounted in the center on the 'hump.'

I tested the midgate open and the seats do not interfear with the function of the subs.  it plays fine and the subs do not hit the seat when its opened and playing.

OK, one last thing... Steve sent me some additional fliers for the midgates.  if you want the info, send me your email and once I get back in GA tomorrow, I'll scan it and email it to you.

Nice set up Byron.  Can't wait to hear it thump!!

Sam

I heard it during the competition and it sounded better than the JL midgates, prolly due to the fact most use a 500/1 amp to run those with. It also looked like very good quality, I checked one out in the registration room prior to it being installed. The 'avalanche' logo across the bottom is a nice touch too. Great job!

I was bummed I didn't get picked to compete though...I think the judges stayed away from my Av being they didn't want to get mud all over themselves. lol I don't think I had a chance against the BOOM av though...I would suggest massive amounts of Dynomat be added to every inch of that Av before it shakes to pieces!! Even the roof was bowing up!!  >:D

Thanks for posting! It looks awesome!!

Mine is due in tomorrow - I can't wait! Good chance to make some major changes in the wifes Av - she's driving me nut's!

Wiring info is also on the SubThump site too.

Very nice setup. And in your personal opinion......how does it sound?  Does it get LOOOOOOOOW......and LOUD?

Which setup won the competition??

04avfan, did you you get it loaded or not? if not, what subs and amp are you using?

Didn't get it loaded - already had a good price on the L7 Solo Barics.
Going with a Planet Audio amp to push it, to go along with the other Planet Audio amp already in.

I was wondering how that would be - I really thing this is going to be a great system. Any other words of wisdom? The install looks pretty straight forward.

Byron, just wanted to take time to thank you again for help with the install at MCM! :B: I got the amp wired and the system sounds great! may have to update the rest of the speakers someday!

Byron, can you email me a flier... I love the way your setup looks, sounds great too!  tke927@yahoo.com

His name was David. He is new. I think he screen name is Boom or something like that. He has 4 RF 15's. I am not sure about the size of his amps but I know they were RF's. I think he said he had been metered in the mid 160's so not much gonna touch that.

I won runner up but am nowhere near the level as many on this site but I feel mine has some thump but it was loud and clear. Talking with david he said something about using a tool and PDA to tune his system. Can anyone shed some light on this? His system was shaking the ground under my av and he was a bit away from me.
