I ordered a 2003 Sunset Orange Metallic Z71

I have been looking all over the net, including CAFCNA, and have yet to find any photos of a Sunset Orange Av with full/partially painted cladding

I like the photos online here, but I am wondering if the orange claddign would look decent?

Also, anyone seen a SnugTop XUV cap on an Orange AV?

well I am sure spork will be supportive of your color choice!

(me I think you missed a chance to get a collector's item Indigo Blue Av, a color no offered in 03 - but the new blue is nice too)

while there are snug top pix on the board, I think you are correct about not seeing one on an Orange Av, but if you failed to search properly and missed one, you will of course be shot. just kidding ;)
 
well, in the entire time I have been on here, I have not seen any SOM painted cladding. IMO, I think that much orange on the AV would look bad. I have been experimenting with different accenting colors for parts of the cladding (in photo shop), but I am not satisfied with anything I have seen so far.

Actually, now that I think of it, I do recall seeing a custom SOM SEMA AV, with orange and black cladding on it. I will have to look and see what I can find.

BTW, I assume because of your screen name that you own a Volkswagen. What kind? I have a '99 NB

Have any of you tried to paint the cladding the jeep wrangler orange to give the big truck a ontrasting orange look

I have been thinking of many combos

VLKWAGEN Im a Long Islander but there is a better chance of seeing my truck on rt 22 upstate NY
 
I think I would stick with the OEM color, and add black to break it up. If the caldding was done in a darker grey, or black, I think it would look pretty awesome (maybe we will see some with the new cladding color... retrofit might be in order).

White would be interesting too.... make it look like a giant cream-cicle >:D
 
heres a message i recieved a while back from a company i found that painted the cladding:


" ? ? ?we can colormatch it smooth or we can leave it textured. textured would be $1450 installed and smooth would be $1850 installed. it takes about 3-5 days.

also i've attached a picture that they sent me with the av painted completely. ?its kinda iffy (good and okay), but if i were to do it, it would be just portions, but even with that (tried playing with it in photoshop) it didnt look right.

imo, white, black and blue work fine. ?any other color is just too loud, but thats jmo.

thanks for those pics.... as I thought.... tooooooo much orange... just doesn't look right. needs a darker or lighter color in there to break it up a bit...
 
I haven't looked it up yet but what is the factory color code for S O M ?I need to buy a quart to start painting stuff. I think it will look good on my fridge in the kitchen.
 
Wow this site never ceases to amaze me! Someone asks to see a SOM with painted cladding and sure enough someone comes through with a great picture, I luv this site :love: BTW I think it is too much orange.......SOM owner's unite :B:

Vlkwagen could have you ordered your truck with The North Face option? If so what does it look like?
 
Yes, I was able to order a north face edition
the dealer was just selecting the vehicle inventory they wanted for 2003, and so they put my truck on their list

supposedly they say i will get my truck with the first shipment of 2003 avs, but hey are always wrong

I hope the darker cladding looks good

I want to ponly paint the lower half of the cladding so that there will be some contrast
I think it will look great

I also agree that it is WAAAAAYYYY too much orange to have all of the cladding painted orange. :D:

IMHO I think Spork's idea would be better.

In SOM we trust!
 
SOM is what got me hooked on the Av. They didn't have competition yellow so orange it is.

Now if I could just get my lower front bumper looking better(Boo Boo from some coward hitting me and running.) I sucks that I have to replace the entire cover when only 4 x 4 in square is damaged.

It's good to know there are several of us SOM AV owners out there. I seem to be the only SOM owner in this area of MD. Anyway, I like the contrast of the gray cladding and the orange color. All orange doesn't appeal to me. After people get over the beastlyness :eek:of the AV, they always comment on how cool the color is and how much they like it. :love: Me too!!! ;D ;D

Proud owner of SOM NFE. Current mods include ARE 18" Hype chrome wheels with 285/60/18 Falkens, Clifford, K&N filter, Magnaflow muffler
