Recently I decided that my Av's tail pipe is quite unsightly and a perfect area to do another mod. I went to the local performance garage this weekend to get an estimate for replacing my tail pipe tip. The mechanic recommended stainless steel instead of chrome. He said get the 22" long tip and place it at more of a swept back angle than the stock pipe. The tip is a slightly larger diameter than the existing.

His price was $49 for the 22" stainless steel tip and $20 for welding it on.

Any comments or feedback on this idea? Will the new tip negatively affect performance in any way? Will it cause warranty problems?

It won't affect performance as long as it's the same diameter. And even if it isn't the same diameter, as long as there's some of the stock pipe behind the muffler it still won't affect performance TOO much. Shouldn't affect warranty on what remains of your stock exhaust system at all unless they can show that the stainless addition specifically caused damage (perhaps rust?) to the stock section or that the guy who installed it damaged something in doing so.

Since it will only be the last 2' of the pipe that is affected, then it shouldn't affect anything too much. I think it will look a heck of a lot better than the stock rusty-looking tail pipe. This will hold me over until I'm ready to put on a performance exhaust system.

As long as you like the looks, go for it! Performance and warranty will not be affected by adding a stainless tip of similar size.

try a search on exhaust tips....many posts and pics on here
