Anyone know if there is a mod that will allow me to lower the tailgate like hydraulic cylinders without having it come down like 1 ton of metal only to be caught by the two cables.

My daughter almost killed herself when she accidently opened the latch. I know keep it locked at all times.

thanks
bill

This fits a Silverado, so not sure if same for an Avalanche?

A very interesting product. (y)

If you use the comboboxes near the top of the page to look up the part for an Avalanche (any year) it says that there is no application available.

There was some discussion about the stainless steel VR straps that replace the cables. These were designed for the Silverado, and they fit some, bot not all Avalanches. There was a difference based on year and cladded/non-cladded. The solution for the straps was to lenghthen one of the holes into a slot, otherwise it would bind up when the gate was almost closed.

This product is slightly different, in that it looks like it mounts to one of the hinge bolts. Based on another product (a lock that prevented the tailgate from being removed) there are some differences in the hinge bolts, and a standard Silverado product didn't fit all Avs.)

My guess is that this product might work on a few Avs, and will probably be a close but not quite fit on the others. Hard to tell.

Thanks spottyj i just called the company you posted and they said the tailgate assists should be out Q4 this year or Q1 next year.

Anyone else know of any companies with this type of device

Check out Drop Tail This is what you had asked for. If you are seriousely interested in this, send me a PM. I will see if I can find the contact information for the owner that is looking to have an Av owner install this on their truck.

Yep. ONE kit is being setup as we type. It's the stealth version as he and I had kind of drawn up and done a little tinkering with. I would expect to see some pictures and info soon.

I still really want to do this, but have a couple more things on the platter first.

I still think that person that evil little devil that lives just miles away from droptail should install this on at least ONE of his AVs... ;)

You could hide an ATV whinch in the saddel bag!!!
Overkill? Yes.
Cool? Yes.
Fun? Yes.

THIS is some of the info that lockout was talking about. I believe he has been in contact with the folks at droptail.
Looks like a great product for the heavy tailgate and weak cables at not a HUGE investment. Just disable the speed sensor tailgate drop as you are not going to improve your MPG since most of us run stock AV cargo covers 90% of the time.

I saw this in action. The last tailgate moding party the So Cal group had, he came down to take a look at the inside of the the Av's tailgate. It really is a cool product.

BTW... I do not have any connection to this company other than what I have posted above.

Who is the manufacturer of the Pop&Lock tailgate lowering device, and how do I get in touch with them?
