Talk Me Into This.........

Getting down to crunch time, the WBH Avs hit my dealer next week. I am starting to waver, as far as buying the Av. It's not that I am doubting the Av, it's the price. Having spent $14k on my last vehicle, I am having a tough time with the idea of spending 29-30k on a new vehicle. It's not really a question of affording it, it's just getting over that initial number.

Help!!!!!

Go For IT!!!!!!

If you can afford it,it is way worth the money you put in!!!

You know, I was of the same mind not too long ago.

"Who the hell spends $40,000 on a vehicle? I mean, what the hell?"

I took a good look at my 1996 Ford Escort (which cost me $8,000 back in 1998.), then I took a look at my paycheck.

Well, apparantly, I spend that much ($36k actually) on a vehicle. >:D

Just test drive one (again, if nexessary) and you'll get over your fear of numbers.

Just look at what it costs to get what in the vehicle market, an IMO (and the opinion of many others on this board) - the Av will come to the top of the heap in terms of value! If you really don't want to spend the money for a new one, look for a 2002 used Av - they're starting to show up, and you might find a good deal.

The Av was my first new vehicle since my S-10 Blazer in 1987 - it was $15k, so I understand the sticker shock!

>:D go for it! go for it! >:D

If it is not a financial "burden" - go for it! :D

Think about your next best option, and compare the price, then compare WHAT you get for your money...
No Doubt - you will want the AVALANCHE! ;) (y)

Seven

Just my 2cents, but I looked at new vehicles for a couple years and now would not go back. Traded in my 94 z71 for the Av. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I Loved the old truck had 152,000 turns and still ran me from point a to b but it was time. When I first walked in I had the same thoughts . Good luck in your decision and enjoy whatever you get. Hope it is a Av though. More ambers

The big question is?
Do you want to be like everyone else,[SUV,truck owner]
or do you want to set yourself apart from the rest

Strive to be different!!

AV a nice day :)

:B: :B:
Look at it this way:
1) 6 passenger full size sedan ( Crown Vic ) - 25-30K
2) 2 dr fullsize pickup (wouldn't need ext.cab) - 20-25K
Rough total of what you would lay out -40-55K

Where's the contest? Plus you only insure, service, maintain, and mod 1 vehicle, you can't lose it in a parking lot (that doesn't apply at a GTG), and we're all here to help - it doesn't GET any better than this....... ;D ;D ;D ;D

;D very funny. ;D
MM sure did miss you Saturday, you missed a good time. Hope you can make the next one.

MY wife and I had exactly the same difficulty with the price. It turned out tto be more than the house we're livng in. Of course, we bought the house 18 years ago.

But, we love the AV. Best riding, best handling, most thoughtfully engineered vehicle we've ever been in. And I like the cladding because no more parking lot door dings! :D

You don't want a lifetime full of regrets do you? Go for it! :B:

Our next vehicle was to be a small to mid-sized wagon. I know, I know, but we are really "car" people, not "truck" people. We basically needed a vehicle that could seat 4 comfortably, 5-6 in a pinch. But I am still a speed freak. So the wagons I was looking at were:

  • Subaru WRX - $25k
  • VW Passat VR6 4Motion - $32k
  • Audi A4 Avant - $36k
  • Audi A6 Allroad - $43k
These are all fine machines, but none of them as flexible as the Avalanche. And none could tow much. I could seat 4 people in all four of these wagons VERY comfortably, but still could not

  • haul home a 4x8 sheet of plywood
  • haul 4-5 dozen retaining wall blocks
  • haul 1/2-ton of pea gravel
  • tow 4000-7000 lbs.
Now, I don't have a trailer, but I have done the other things so far. We're first-time homeowners of 3 years, and when we bought our Av a year ago, we were in more need of hauling home-do-it-project materials than we were of attacking the autobahn. (Average speed limit her in Salem is 30 anyway, so there's really no place to WOT anyway...)

I finalily conceded that our next vehicle would cost $28-32k anyway, so why not throw down the extra couple G and get the Truck of the Year?

Hope it helps.

Brendan

P.S. Also if you are a generous sort, you can also help people move--I've done this twice.

Go get one, you will not regret it for a minute........Over 4000 members can't be wrong!~

Hey, I came from a Cavalier, the AV is LUXURY no matter what model (Base/Z66/Z71/2500) you get.

My '02 Base model AV was $27,881......I didn't think that was too much for a vehicle that was so diverse.......and draws such attention.....

Need I mention the SMOOTH ride?

I love this SUT! ;D

Oh, and one last note....get the AV, and get some stripes, they make you go FASTER!!!!! J/K (y)

Try over 100,000 owners, but I guess that is over 4000 just not CAFCNA members. (but it should be) (y)
The best $35,000 I have spent plus mods, and gas, and oil, and (soon tires)(guess thats a mod).......

The easiest way to get past spending almost twice what you previously paid, kbavalanche, is to get in it and drive.

It is just that easy. I have never been happier with a vehicle purchase. I paid more for it than any of the others I had purchased, but than again all the purchase prices were steadily increasing over time. Long gone are the days of the $150 college beater for me.

Every time I get behind the wheel of the AV I remember just why we bought it and what a pure pleasure it is to own.

I think everyone feels their gut twist when they spend a ton of money. Thing is, your gut should only be upset for a few days and the thrill of driving an Av will last a lifetime.

Ok, now talk my wife into it............

Just kidding, thanks for the feedback!

Geez man go for it, it could be worse, you could come down here and pay over $100K for one.

Wow Skidd. I'm sick about that - I guess it takes a lot to swim that sucker over there, or are they flying it 1st Class? I guess you won't be posting in the "Hey, Who Got the Best Deal?" thread!

I'm going into business exporting cars to the Land Down Under >:D

I should say of course that I am talking about $100K Aussie dollars. ?It sorta breaks down like this;

Start of with the vehicle purchase price, now remember that as it's heading straight overseas and not being registered in the US I cannot pick up any factory cash back. ?I guess you would say an average deal for a loaded (leather, premium sound, sunroof etc) 2500 4x4 2003 model is;

Vehicle price; $38,000USD = $67,000AUD
Packing & shipping; $5,000USD = $8,800AUD
Import tax @ 10% = $7,500AUD
Conversion to RH drive = $20,000AUD
GST (tax) on coversion = $2,000AUD

TOTAL = $105,300 AUD

And we still haven't paid for the govt stamp duty ($2,575 once of fee) registration ($650 each year) and insurance ($2,200 per year) which will all add up to about an extra $5,425 just to get it on the road... and we haven't even filled the fuel tank yet!! ?

Now can you folk remind me again how much I am going to like this vehicle... ?:cautious:

You'll love it assuming that you get a "good" one. ?Geez, it better be worth $105,300 AUD, meaning that you aren't disppointed in it with problems ?. ?I really hope so.

I still think you'll love it and you shouldn't have problems. ?Imagine all the looks you'll get in the Av >:D.
It is such a neat truck.

Your AV will certainly be a novelty in your town (not to mention the whole country). And right hand drive, I didn't think of that. Neat. That truck had better be PERFECT when it arrives on your doorstep!

I've had my AV about three months. If anyone had ever suggested that I would pay more than $25,000 for a truck, I would have told them they were crazy. I paid $28,600 for my AV and have never given it a second thought! This is the first time that I've bought a new vehicle that I haven't had those "what if I had..." thoughts. Nothing like it on the road....get one! Go on....get one....c'mon now....get one! You'll love it...and so will she! Geez, sounds like a commercial...I'm waiting for the music to start!
