What purpose does the Throttle Body Spacer serve?

Does it really make a "whining" noice?

I'm going to get the FIPK GII but have doubts about the functionality of the TBS.

Most of the info that you're looking for has already been discussed many times. ?Be sure when searching to set the max days since last post ?to 999.

Essentially the TBS creates some type of "vortex" that helps in ramming air into the throttle body.
Yes, like I said in your other post, it makes a little whistleing noise in almost everyones applications.

It only runs $110, and if you don't like it you could probably re-sell it here for a small loss.

Some have complained of the whining noise, i have never noticed it. guess lucky. I do like the feel it gives on low end.
I was going to go with the FIPK system, but once you put the TBS on you have to trim the fan shroud. Just be sure before you do it. That is what has held me back from doing the FIPK , i think there are a few of the air intakes that will work with it, but those do not replace the entire intake only the housing where the filter is...

Here is a question. I have installed the TBS with a UPD air intake. Did anyone else torque down the bolts to what the manual calls for? The shop manuals I have for the AV calls for all three bolts to be torqued down to 88lbs in. Anyone do this? As I don't think the bolts that the TBS comes with can handle that kind of pressure.

Thanks,
Dark

88 in lbs is not a lot of torque, Perhaps you're confusing it with 88 ft lbs? Now that would be a lot of torque for a small bolt, that's more in line with what you would use for a lug nut. 88 in lbs would be 1/12th the torque, and sounds reasonable to me.

With an 8 inch ratchet handle, that would only be about 11 lbs of force on the end of the handle. That's not much. Sounds like they are more worried about stripping out the threads, and less worried about it being super tight.

Now, I'm no gear head, I'm just looking at this from an engineering/math point of view. I could be all wet.

Or is "in" a typo and you meant "ft"?

Sorry that was a typo...It is 88ft. lbs That is why I was concerned. It seems like a lot of pressure, infact I think I may have snapped one of the bolts, the top one. Everything seems to be running ok, but I am going to pull it apart this weekend and see.

Dark.
