Okay...I posted this a day ago, but with all the problems the board has been having it seems to have dissappeared. ?I'll try and answer all the questions I received about it.

I finally got my Texas Flag Glasscape Tint for my AV the other day and it looks freaking AWESOME!!!!

avback.jpg

Several people wanted to know what visibility was like from the inside out, so I snapped this shot with my digital camera. ?

rearview.jpg

Its not a great shot, but it shows that there is some distortion looking out the back. Not enough to bother me. ?It can be a little disturbing at night because you really see the little holes when your looking at a car's headlights behind you.

To Carrerarod:
1. The American Flag Glasscape on a Black AV looks awesome. ?A guy in town here has one on a black Z71 AV and it kicks all kind of butt. ?I highly recommend it.

2. ?I had my local tint guy order it for me through Glasscapes. ?Have your local tint guy call 1-888-440-4277 to order.

3. ?The Glasscape tint comes made to fit a fullsized truck rear window. ?So yes it has to be cut down quite a bit to cut the AV. My tint guy let me center the image how I wanted it on the glass then did a loose cut to fit. ?When I was satisfied witht he location he stuck it on then cut it to fit the rest of the way. ?Took all of 5 minutes.

4. ?This stuff basically applies like contact paper or any other tint. ?He cleaned my window with soapy water first. ?Then we pulled the paper backing off the tint to expose the adhesive and then stuck and squeegeed it on. ?It would scrape off easily with a razorblade.

To Blueruck:
1. ?I'm trying to find a spot to put the CAFCNA logo. :)

I hope that gets everybody's questions. ?Let me know if I can answer any more. ?Providing we don't have technical difficulties with the board again!

Keep up the good work Chief!

I've been thinking about gettin an American flag one for my black Z71, but didn't know what they were called. I've seen them in my area on a couple of Dodge Quads - love the look.

1. How much did it cost? Did the tint guy charge labor for his 5 minutes?

2. Does it go on the inside or the outside of the window?

1. I actually had a line of credit with this guy. So no money actually traded hands. He sold the brush guard off my '97 Chevy for me for $200. He then tinted my windows and then ordered this flag tint in and applied it. We called it even at that. I probably got took just a little bit, but we have a give and take relationship. He cuts me deals all the time, so we don't worry about the nickles and dimes too much.

2. The Glasscape tint applies to the OUTSIDE of the glass. So it is exposed to the elements. I was glad to see that since it would not show up well through the dark tinted glass.

That was the main reason for my question... The other reason is I just applied the CAFC decal to the back window... Decisions, decisions...

Great Job. Flag goes nicely with Red.

AJ
The cost is around $70 at any off-road truck store. :p
If you are going to get the US Flag, do not get the one with the Eagle Flying. It looks great on the poster, but the size of our AV window is about half of a full size truck rear window. You will need to cut out about half of the poster, and you will not be able to center the Eagle. :-[

I was not sure about cutting out half the flag and centering, so I put it on the truck rear door (see pics). So far, it has held up well. :D  But looking at byron's, the flag in the back window will look outstanding. You will not have a major problem seeing out the back (any more than normal). :B:

We basically just put the AV back glass down on a table and held the tint over it. I wanted as much of the star as I could get as well as a good deal of the red/white standard. So actually I ended up taking most of the left side middle of the tint. With the American Flag tint you can either start at the left side top or left side middle to get a nice mix of stars and stripes.

Either of these Glasscapes look awesome on a AV. My truck "Texas Red" is getting twice the looks now.

I put on the american flag (see attached) on my back window. Bought mine at the local auto parts store $40.
Installed it myself in the middle of the winter, 30 degrees outside. I just brought the window in the house let it warm up to room temp, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, sprayed soapy solution on window, centered the decal, trimmed, squeeged, and then went over it with a hair drier. No problems with adhesion.$70 sounds alittle high to me, look around at your local auto parts stores. You will find it cheaper and installing it is very easy.

Very nice. That flag was my 2nd choice. But since I live in Texas there was only one flag for me. :)

They both look outstanding guys.

Now I am thinking of one for my AV.

;D

Byron,

Is that a Parkway Chevrolet sticker on the back? I wondered who was driving the only other red AV between Willowbrook and Conroe. ;D

I am going to order one tomorrow along with the Texas Z71 stickers from stickerking.

They are coming out with a "Don't Tread on Me" design. Too bad it is not easily cut down. to fit the AV windows.

Yep. I bought it in Tomball at Parkway Chevrolet. I'm native to Conroe. Where abouts are you? I know I'm the only other AV with this flag in Conroe right now. So flag me down if you see me!

I was wondering if there was any issue with the flag tinting and the electric heating elements in the window? Does the window get hot enough to screw up the flag?

For starters the tint is on the outside. The heating elements are on the inside, so there is no direct contact. I've used the heating elements a few times so far, and have not noticed any problems. It seems to be okay.

The only thing I will say about this tint is that since its on the outside...the microscreen holds water. It makes it almost impossible to see out the back when it rains.

Hey Byron,
I think I am the Black Z71 you referred to in the beginning...I live about 15 miles west of Conroe....I have had the flag on this truck since Dec. '01 and no probs....I took it off the truck I had before and transferred to this one. You are right about the visibility during rain, very bad...I carry a towel with me to wipe it off when it quits raining...Also if you ever get tree sap or bird droppings on it, clean in a rush. It will stain and you can not get it off. I ruined one like that on my other truck...."Texas Red" looking good.
CYA...
Bob....

somehow my attachment got deleted ??? well here's another pic of it(see attached)
I have not had any problems with the heating elements last winter, and I used the rear defroster quite a few times last winter. I didn't really notice any problems when it rains, I'll pay more attention the next time it does rain.

Nice to meet you Bob. You had yours put on at Texan Tinters? Keith told me that he put the flag on a black Z71 and I've only seen the one around town, so it has to be you.

Say BIGRED, I found mine at Murray's auto parts store. I haven't checked since I bought mine if they have anymore or not. I'll stop by there on my way home tomorrow and see if they have anymore or at least I'll find out who makes it. If they have one I'll pick it up and PM you tomorrow night.
