is...when it freezes your tailgate shut I went up snowboarding today where it was 10 degrees outside and went to put my board in the back when I went in for lunch (I have the roof rack ski racks but I was going to get lunch) so I tryed to open the tailgate I pulled the handel and nothing I pulled really hard and nothing I moved my finger along the tailgate and cargo cover and nothing but when I got home tonight I was driving up the drive way and yep you guessed it "boom boom boom" I jumped about 50 feet in my seat and went to look and my tailgate had came unfrozen and fell.

ouch..... sounds like you need to mod the tailgate with heat tape

you didn't loose anything out the back did you?

no I did not lose anything out the back luckly I all ways have my board on the roof rack but normaly I would have all my other gear back there being I could not get it open it was all in the back seat also I tryed my mid-gate up there too and it was really different the flap that normaly follows the mid-gate down was stuck up.

My tailgate got frozen stuck this weekend too. It decided to let go on the freeway at about 70mph. BOOM BOOM. I thought I had dropped the rear end or run over something big. Didn't know what it was until I got to the Bears game, and saw that it was open. Nothing back there to loose, but, there could have been.

I am thinking that a good coat of silicon on those rubbers would keep that from happening, or at least not let it stick so tight.

Any thoughts?

I had same Issue :

I just spilled some washer solvent over the rear gate seal and it opened .

Put some 303 or like on the rubber seals...makes it less likely to hold the water to freeze up...

Or

MOVe south! hehehehe

So far, I've not had this problem, but it may be a matter of time. If the rearmost panel sags at all (as many do) there's lots of room for water to accumulate (say during a daytime thaw) and then freeze (the following night). Thanks for the heads-up guys - the silicone treatment (get the 'good' kind) sounds like a good idea - and I'll remember the windshield washer solvent trick if I do get 'stuck'.
