Has anyone installed a trotle body spacer on their 5.3 engine? The claims seem to be too good to be true.(10% better gas mileage, up to 22 more HP, etc.)Is it just a lot of BS? Herb ???

I know alot of members have installed these. You should get alot of responses. If not do a search with the title. The numbers you posted seem a little exagerated though :cautious:

I plan on installing a TBS as soon as I can get my electric fans installed. ;D

I added a TB space & cold air intake at the same time. Very little, if any performance & mpg improvement :C:
Do a custom PCM tune instead... :0:

One of the tech magazines did some dyno test on various intake upgrades.

TB spacers made ZERO HP on fuel injected engines. These are a carryover from carburation days when air and fuel traveled together in the intake plenum.

Tried it and no workee. Swirl is important if fuel is mixed with air in the throttle body or carburetor. Avalanche is port injected.

Sorry ... ron ;)

I agree! I had my PCM tuned and it definitely increased power, it is very obvious. Truck runs better than new and has more power with my new 18 inch wheels and 33 inch tires than it ever did with the factory 17 inch wheels and 31 inch tires. I think the power comes from doing away with the torque management.

Plus is shifts way better.

My point exactly, The theory was, the longer the intake plenum is, the better air/fuel mixture was and you could richen the carb (bigger jets) and create more HP. The theory does not work with new injected motors that have the fuel injected into the combustion chamber... a complete waste of time and money :C: Speaking of a complete waste of time and money :0: THIS doesn't work either and neither does THIS

I have dyno time and every now and then we buy this junk and try it out, NONE of it works, actually the "tornado" lowered the engine hp, robbing the engine of air kinda like sticking a sock in the intake manifold... :8: :8: :8:

Okay, Newbie question... how do I get my PCM tuned? Go to the dealer? Or do I need to buy a module that I'll use once or twice and pay mega bucks! ???

You can get tuned PCMs from a variety of sources.. Allen Nelson, PCM4Less, Futral, VCI... they run between 250 and 400 depending on tuner and offer a variety of upgrades to the pcm... once installed the truck will run better, get more MPG, average 15-20hp at the back tires, shift better and more. Some offer 87/91 split octane tunes some are stricktly 91 or higher octane.

The outlay is big on the front but upgrades later on are cheap..some free... but you will definatly see a marked improvement.

I just got my Superchips Tuner today and just programmed my 2500 Avy and then took a quick test drive. I noticed quite a difference and that was just using the 87 octane tuning and the SC tune option (instead of MAX). I can't wait to fill it up with 91 or 93 to see what is does. It has noticeably more power and shifts really good.

I also cant wait to get my VaraRam CAI, JBA Headers, and MagnaFlow exhaust installed, all of which should arrive next week.

I am trying to decide on getting my PCM tuned professionally or getting a tuner for it (i.e. Predator, SC, HPP3) I like the Predator but it is a lot of money. The HPP3 seems like a stock programmer, and I want to have one that has more options like the Pred and SC. A pro tune, wouldn't allow me to use my AV for a week while it is getting tuned. So, I have a bit of a dilemma. I would like to calibrate my PCM so it can take into effect the 34s and get rid of torque management, increase HP, and get better, smoother shift points; its just hard to decide, mainly because I have other important mopds, or at least one inparticular; changing my gears to 4.56s. both of these mods need to be done.

You dont have to be without your av if you do the pcm at www.pcmforless.com You pay them a core charge upfront, you fill out your details online, pay online, they send you your new pcm, you take yours off and send it back then you get a $115 core charge rebate.

Everything you mentioned that you want, gets done with Bryan at pcmforless.

I love mine!

Larry

by the way mine was only $260 (after getting $115 core charge back)

Thanks, for the info on the PCMs. I am not sure what I will do here, I really want to get something that will recalibrate my CPU for the larger tires and do the speed sensor, among other things.

Where did you get the magnaflow system from ??? I am looking and trying to decide between flowmaster and magnaflow. Any input you have would be great.

thanks

I called Magnaflow directly, and they gave me a list of dealers in my area, and I just called around to find out who has the best price. Although make sure you get a Catback system instead of the muffler alone, better deal and it replaces all your pipes with SS. I only got the muffler, and am waiting to either swap it out, or just swap the pipes out (y).

All your pipes are already SS.

No, I still have the stock pipes :6:. I would rather have gotten the Magnaflow SS Catback system ;D (y).
