Hi everyone,

Been wanting to do a Four Peaks run for a while now. I'm open to any weekend, Sat or Sunday. Keep it simple, pack a lunch and chow at the top. I've never hiked the trail to the peak so maybe we'll put that on our list.

2 wheel drive AV can also make this trek.
No GPS or Maps required ;D

Here are a couple of links about the area,

I'd like to go the back way home. Continue the trail over Four Peaks to Rosevelt Lake. I haven't been that way in years. This will put us on highway 60. Four Peaks road starts on the Bee Line just north of S. Lake turn off.

I'm thinking this next Sat 24th or Sunday 25th or the Following weekend, 31/1st.

Sunday the first it is.

UPDATE - We will not be wheeling the other side to Roosevelt. Part of that Trail 143 is closed.

We can't make this weekend but the following one is a good possiblity. I will stay tuned for additional info. on this one. I also would like to take the long way home just to see a part of AZ few of us ever venture into.

Same here this weekend is no good due to being in Indiana till late saturday, but the next weekend looks good. Will be nice to get away from the heat a little bit. ;D

Sure, he picks the weekend after he comes back so I can't take the truck without him again. >:D

He acts like I always break something when I drive it. ;)

For the record, even though I can drive it this week since he is away. I am not.

Check on the latest fire activity. I thought I heard there was one around four peaks or roosevelt lake area. Need to make sure there aren't any dirt road closures due to fire danger.

Sunday the 1st works for me as well. I am down like a clown, without a frown, and I.....yeah, I wanna go (y) ;D

Ok, Sunday the first sounds good........ and we will continue over to Roosevelt Lake.
Here's some info on that area; http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/roosevelt_lake/

There is a fire about 6 miles west of Four Peaks, saw it on the news Sunday night but I'm confident that we'll still be fine. I'll keep a heads up on it.

I'll keep updates on my origanal post.

Since we are heading north again I think S.E. siders and N.W siders meet like we did for the Tonto Natural Bridge would work again. At least this time the N.W. siders will know where the gas station is. I suggest a meet up time of 8:30am.

I suggest both groups hook up at the Supper Pumper just west of the Bee Line and Shea Blvd by 9-9:15am. Took us N.W. siders only about 25mins. to get there.

Here's the ADOT Web site for Highway closures

due to current events... I am not sayin that I am going, but wondering how long this trip takes?

Hey Gray,

We may hike to the peak (I've never done that) Stop for lunch, maybe check out the Dam at the lake.

So, I would say it's going to be an all dayer. Meaning none of us should expect to be back home earlier than say 5pm

Nick

So what kind of roads are we looking at? Iknow you said us 2 wheelers can do it, but is it pretty mild? Going down the back way OK for 2 wheelers too? Hate too sound like a whimp, but "that there off
roadin' stuff" can get pretty hairy, especially for us non - cladded boys!

Nick

Hi 04avfan,

I understand your concern.

The dirt road is well maintained all the way up to the peaks and is very mild, and then continues down to Roosevelt Lake. I see no reason for that section not to be maintained since it does continue to the Apache Trail and is often used.

I did some searches and everything I found about the Four Peaks Road to the Apache Trail indicated trail level as "Easy to Moderate" (moderate meaning high clearence which the AV has)

I have the number for the Tonto National Forest and will give them a call to double check.
Check out the links I posted on my first post. Alot of good info about the area since you have not gone that way.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick, I got a new phone, so I lost your number (even though you left me a vm....) :( I will be at the house after 7:00, so if you wanna stop by and check out the grille/AEM, let me know

The first works for us so count us in... I went over the peaks with my AV aobut a year ago and I remember the drive (not stopping for lunch) took about 3 hours or so, including stops for pics along the way. The biggest problem I remember was small rocks from the trail stuck in the tires and of course came loose when I was on the highway on the way back, windshield killers for sure...

Slightly off topic, but does anyone go up to the Pavillions on Saturday night anymore? I was there a couple of weeks ago at about 5 pm and did not see any Avalanches.

The group goes there every so often.... if you want to meet up with a bunch of members there just post the date and I am sure you will get some people to show up...

OK - count us in at this point.
If you hear a funny noise it will just be me screaming as my paint disappears!

We cannot make it to the pavillions. I am picking ghost up at the airport saturday night.

Day 4 into the week and I have been good. I still have not driven the av. :(

our update: we have not found a new house yet. we are making progress going through our stuff and cleaning and prepping our house.

p.s. group email is being sent out tonight.

Thanks Donna. You'll be taking the AV to pick up ghost? I mean that wouldn't count cause he would drive it home, right? >:D

Oh, and very funny Grey :7: ;D

04avfan, looking forward to seeing you.

I also won't be able to make the Pavillions GTG Saturday.

Nick, sorry I missed your call (I was passed out sleeping). I will be off work at 6:30, and home around 7, so just call me and cruise on over....

UPDATE......

Turns out that the back way to Roosevelt is not open. Forest Service said that the fires and rain has made the pass difficult for anything less than 4X4 and would be tough for the AV to make it.

I took a trip out to Roosevelt yesterday with my kids, however I didn't make it up to that sections to see for myself, it looked like it was getting close to raining and I didn't want to get caught up there with muddy dirt roads. It was some good wheeling and great views, was up hill all the way. It was a bummer though cause I think I only had a few more miles to go to get to that section. I did talk to some 4wheels that were on the trail and they all said it would be tough, to, though that section was closed. We went there and back via Apache Trail and took 7 hours with a stop for lunch at the Dam and a stop at Tortia Flats for some Ice Cream.

So with just going up and back the same way I would say our getting home time would be around 3pm.

Southeast siders meet time & location.

8:00 am - Southeast corner of Gilbert & McKellips
.

Behind the texaco station like last time.

Leave by 8:30am to meet the west siders at:

The Super Pumper just west of the Bee Line and Shea Blvd by 9-9:15am.

Two-way Channel 8.0.

nick - what are the crossroads, gas station name for the northwest sider location? Between what times will you be at that location?

Lets get a list going of who is meeting at each location so we can make sure we have everyone before we meet at the beeline.
