Tire Noise

I only have 3,000 miles on my AV but since new I have had a noise coming from one of my let side tires. It's a 'wah-wah' noise that seems to be happening at every revolution of one of the tires.

You can hear it at medium speeds (45 or so). You can't hear it at low speeds or higher speeds.

Does this sound like a defective tire? Maybe a belt coming apart?

I had the same thing on my 97 F-150. Then the '02 Avy. Now the '03 Avy. All three had Goodyear Wranglers on them from the factory. I tried having them trimmed, rotated every 3,000 miles, changed air pressure, turned up the radio and tried ignoring it. No deal. Get as much mileage as you can and junk 'em. You won't believe how nice it is to get rid of that awful noise. I did Michelin M&S. Basically a road tire. Quiet as can be.

Good luck

With the Z66 the tires should be GoodYear HP wranglers....which is not a bad tire.......not an awesome tire either.......

It is hard to diagnose with out driving and listening myself.........

Take it to a good year tire place or any for that matter and let the drive it....see what they say...

My stock Z-71 Goodyears are a little noisy, but I've chalked it up to them being on/off roads (my first experience w/ these). Since you say you hear noise from only one tire and they are the Z-66 on-road ones, I'd probably think defect and do what YGMN said.

Vegas,
It's funny you bring this up. I too have a '03 Z66 and hear a similar noise, even a little more like a hum between 53 - 58. I thought it might be the transmission or rear end. As soon as I let off the gas it seems to subside. ???
I'm still troubleshooting it. The AV has 1100 miles on it. I'll keep you posted.

In my 00 Yukon XL 4wd,since day one G.M. calls it a harmonic noise. Its similar to yours. They gave me a 6/60 warranty to go away.

My 03 AV is quiet.

What ply tire are you running? I always go for 10 ply and I feel great when I hear the tire sing. I know that when they quit singing, I am on black ice.

You need to take into the dealer. I had this same noise but I had about 15K miles when I started to hear it. I had a bad rear bearing. This happen two times on my Av. Just take it in and fix the problem
