We are interested in getting bigger tires for our 4x4 but we seem to get a different story from the few places we've checked. We pull lots of boats, 17' to 34', so we need to take that in to consideration. We're thinking 285's with a little lift in front. Anyone have some advice? I just joined this fan club today thinking this would be the place to get the best info. plus we are a huge fan of our truck!!

look in the 4x4 off road section..for those with larger offroad tire threads..

Or look in the MOD section under TIRES and wheels....plenty of threads in there...

PS welcome to the club

Boat Doc, you should get the 285 BFG T/As or Mud Terrains, and get the ford keys to level off the AV, it alos adds about 2", or you could get a body lift, but I am not sure if that would screw up your towing ability, because you will need to relocate the hitch. The ford keys are your best option. If you want them I could probably sell them for $50, brand new, unused. I decided to get a 6" lift instead, because I will do more off-roading than towing, and towing with a 6" is really rough unless you upgrade your gearing.
Good Luck with your Tire Searching, I hope that I was helpful. (y)

James,
Thanks so much! I'm actually the Boat Nurse :) doing the research for my husband, Boat Doc, because our tires are bald and he's too busy to do the reseach. I'll give him the info. you gave. Again, thanks so much!!

Its no problem. :)
I like to try to help out fellow members in need of a quick answer, instead of making them go search through a hundred other posts.

James,
One more thing, what are ford keys? Remember I'm the Boat Nurse so I need an easy to understand answer. I tried to email you but it failed. Thanks for your time!!

Ford Keys, allow you to crank your torsion bars to their fullest. Cranking the Torsion bars is what a lot of mambers have done to put bigger tires on, upto 295, and the ride quality does suffer a bit, but that towing is the same, and the AV in my opinion looks a lot better. There are a couple of members that have the Ford Keys in their AVs, I'll get their member names and send them to you, so that you can ask them about installation.
