Hello Everyone,
I'd like to see what level of interest there would be to tour a GM Truck Assembly Plant in Flint, Michigan. The tour would be at 9:00am on a Saturday where heavy duty crew cab Chevy Silverados & GMC Sierras are built. Generally, tours are not offered on Saturdays, so this tour would be a special arrangement. The date is undetermined, but most likely would be in June or July

This invite is open to anybody who'd like to make the drive.
You're welcome to bring your wives and kids, and there is no charge for the tour, which lasts about an hour. I'm sure this would be educational for anyone who attends, and I bet we'll have a better appreciation for our Avs in the process.

Below is an idea how far Flint, Michigan is from the following cities:
Downtown Detroit, Michigan - 70 miles
Downtown Toledo, Ohio - 100 miles
Downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana - 180 miles
Downtown Ludington, Michigan - 210 miles
(Ludington is where the auto ferry from Wisconson arrives)
Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan - 230 miles
Downtown Chicago, Illinois - 270 miles

Please leave post your reply, or send me an email if you're interested so I am able to contact you if we go ahead with this.

Thanks,
Av XXX

UPDATED TOUR INFORMATION / 6-11-03:

Earlier today I spoke with the gentlemen in charge of scheduling the GM Truck Plant tours. We have a tentatively scheduled date of Saturday, August 2th or Saturday August 9th at 9am.

The exact date will be determined in mid July, when he confirms that the assembly plant will be running on Saturdays in August. The tour is about an hour and a half, where we'll see the assembly of crew cab Silverados and Sierras. We'll have an opportunty to see some of the paint shop, engine line, trim line, cab assembly, to when the truck rolls out the door. Cameras are not allowed inside the assembly plant, and the tour is unfortunately not handicapped/wheelchair accessible.

After the plant tour, my thoughts are to cruise south down US23 or I75 to the Detroit suburbs area, approximately 45 minutes, and have lunch around noon. More details to come. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Av XXX

Keep me Posted .. depending on the Date I would be interested in attending...:)

Toronto -----------> Flint Mich... 400km's/250 miles

This sounds like fun to me, let us know when so we can try to make plans to be there.

that would be cool (and somewhat interesting) ... my concern would be can I make to Flint by 9 am on a Sat ...... otherwise I'm in .....

I am going to have to say, not for me. I work in Pontiac at the Pontiac Assembly Center and I see 430 SIlverado/Sierra PU's a day. Thats enough for me. Thanks for the idea anyway. :)

I agree with AVid, I also work at Pontiac Assembly Center and see enough.

Hey PMOE and AVid.... I know how you feel, but there are few folks who dont understand the pains you guys go through putting the trucks together... or the fun I have with my fellow engineers helping y'all out... BTW I have a few EWO's cost reductions in the system coming your way... >:D

What part of the line do you guys have? shift? I am right behind you in PCC-C...

ciao for now... I have some EWO's to write... :2:

I would definitely be interested in touring the plant! I live in Ypsilanti and I am from Flint. I have been in several GM plants but never a manufacturing plant. Please keep me updated!

I would love to come, Triple X, you know I would. I would have to leave at 2:00 in the morning to make it there by 9. :p I will watch for the updates, though. I just might make it across the pond for one of your events. ;)

That soungs like fun. I always wanted to go see one of these places. Please keep me posted as to when it will be, so I can make plans to attend.

David.

Not for me, as I see enough each day.. I work in the Oshawa Truck Assembly Center and see enough of the 1500 Extended cabs ( Silverado, Sierra, SS, Denali and Quadrasteer )

Thanks anyway

I would love to visit a truck plant, but it is a wee bit too far from San Diego.

But please share the findings.

Maybe you will find that rock that Chevy
keeps talking about how it is built like! ?;D ?;D

I will keep both of those dates open. I think there are enough members interested so I will help to keep this post on top. I will be checking this post for any updates and to confirm my attendance once the date has been set.

Thank you for putting this together

David

I recieved your email. I will be attending this GTG if and when it gets of the ground.

I will spend the rest of the weekend on the area visiting some family. Kill two birds with one stone.

Talk to you all later.

Hey Joe and Crew! How is the planning going for this? Got a date yet?
