Hello Everyone,
I'd like to see what level of interest there would be to tour a GM Truck Assembly Plant in Flint, Michigan. The tour would be at 9:00am on a Saturday where heavy duty crew cab Chevy Silverados & GMC Sierras are built. Generally, tours are not offered on Saturdays, so this tour would be a special arrangement. The date is undetermined, but most likely would be in June or July
This invite is open to anybody who'd like to make the drive.
You're welcome to bring your wives and kids, and there is no charge for the tour, which lasts about an hour. I'm sure this would be educational for anyone who attends, and I bet we'll have a better appreciation for our Avs in the process.
Below is an idea how far Flint, Michigan is from the following cities:
Downtown Detroit, Michigan - 70 miles
Downtown Toledo, Ohio - 100 miles
Downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana - 180 miles
Downtown Ludington, Michigan - 210 miles
(Ludington is where the auto ferry from Wisconson arrives)
Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan - 230 miles
Downtown Chicago, Illinois - 270 miles
Please leave post your reply, or send me an email if you're interested so I am able to contact you if we go ahead with this.
Thanks,
Av XXX

UPDATED TOUR INFORMATION / 6-11-03:
Earlier today I spoke with the gentlemen in charge of scheduling the GM Truck Plant tours. We have a tentatively scheduled date of Saturday, August 2th or Saturday August 9th at 9am.
The exact date will be determined in mid July, when he confirms that the assembly plant will be running on Saturdays in August. The tour is about an hour and a half, where we'll see the assembly of crew cab Silverados and Sierras. We'll have an opportunty to see some of the paint shop, engine line, trim line, cab assembly, to when the truck rolls out the door. Cameras are not allowed inside the assembly plant, and the tour is unfortunately not handicapped/wheelchair accessible.
After the plant tour, my thoughts are to cruise south down US23 or I75 to the Detroit suburbs area, approximately 45 minutes, and have lunch around noon. More details to come. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Av XXX
