Transmission Control Module?

On a trip this weekend, I was taking off from a stop sign and found the transmission "wandering"...? It seemed it would not settle into a gear. When I pressed the gas, it just seemed to wander. The tack ran high, but no speed. I did this for a while, also noticing that power door locks were automatically locking/unlocking themselves...?

I nursed it along to a side road, then called On Star. They downloaded diagnostics, said " the tranmission control module" had a fault code and I should take it to a dealer within the next seven days. I specifially asked if it was OK to drive, they said YES.

So, I took off like nothing happened and the vehicle ran AOK for another 350 miles. I will call dealer Monday a.m. and see what they say.....

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I am no mechanic, but try disconnecting you negative battery terminal for about 20 minutes. I believe that this will reset your PCM. I am pretty sure that this is what they are talking about. In any case, a trip to the dealer is a good idea to document the problem is case it happens later.

GET THIS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of members had this happen and have caused some forms of damage to the trans. If the modual keeps acting up it will cause excessive wear and heat which in turn will mess the trans. It is a simple fix for the dealer. its a little black box on the outside of the trans. Unhook the wires discontect the box from the tranny, install a new one and its fixed dealer can probably fix while you wait. Not trying to alarm you but I just want to inform you so you don't have bigger problems down the road.

I agree you need to get this replaced ASAP,it has happen to me and the mech. said it was a bad part that GM knows all to well about and it trys to put all gears into service at the same time. It also as you said a come and go problem that will come more often

Is there a Technical Service Bulletin on this? The dealer said unless there was a warning light, or something on now, there was nothing he could do...

HELP!

Thanks.

FIND A NEW DEALER. The control modual poped a DTC and Onstar picked it up which means that the modual is bad. Bulliten or not if a part is bad it needs to be changed!!

What bonedog said! Take it to the dealer, if they do not want to replace it, call GM! In any case you will have it documented for further problems.

Talked to the Service Manager, he said bring it in. As some have noted, if On Star caught it, the dealer should as well.

Thanks, will keep you posted.

PS - I still love the Avalanche! It's a great driving, great looking vehicle.
