I was taking the kids to soccer when I noticed the tach on 2000 and I wasn't doing 74 mph, about 70. No loss of power or noticable slip. We left soccer and th "Service engine soon" light came on. I read the code as soon as I got home E07408. My info says that E0740* is a tranny code. So I check the fluid and it's just barly low (almost up to the crosshatch). I put some fluid in it and reset the code. Pull my boat (in tow/haul) over the weekend. No problems no codes. I'm guessing (hoping) just a little low on fluid and a little slipage in the torque converter. Well today on the way to work, without boat, I can sometimes make the rpm climb in 4th a couple hundred...appears to be slipping some in 4th (guessing). No codes yet. Next code and back to the dealer.

Anyway, have any of you had this code? What was the resolution?

Thanks,

You shouldn't need to be adding fluid - first bad sign - I would get to a dealer quickly - wouldn't wait for number 3 - ain't baseball.

Wow old post.? Same thing happening to me.

I have the 3.75 in the back and my RPMs go as high as 2700 with cruise set for 65MPH flat road.? As soon as I step on the gas they drop down to about 2000 and go back up to 2500-2700 after I take my foot off.

Cruise set at 61mph on flat road RPMs are at 2300 until I hit the gas and they will drop down to about 1800 and go back to 2300 after I take my foot off.

A/C off, cruise set at 65mph in 2WD flat road, where are people RPM's at?? Do they fluctuate like this at steady speed?
???

Except my fluid level looks ok and there is no code being set.  Dealer says this is normal.

Tietanic - you have 3.73 :)

Check ignition switch as a possibility too - any other oddities in the gauges?

Oh yeah! :p?

Everything else looks good.? And I don't think it is a gauge problem because there is a gentle "thump" when I put my foot on the pedal like something engages.

I had this issue in another post and Trannyman was going to look at it in a GTG but I didn't make it.

I am afraid to bring it to the dealer again because without it setting a code I am starting to feel like an automotive hypochondriac but it just can't be normal for this to be revving this high at cruising speed.? Right?

I used to get 21mpg all highway (no really, I did!) now I am lucky to get 15-16.

Actually, I meant the second part of my post to go towards Lex for his issue ;)

We have a few GTG's coming up soon....... so come on down. We have our annual Super Bowl party, and this year The Monster Garage Theatre is proud to present the Daytona 500. I was also up your way on Sat at BAT's GTG.
