I want to get a sub box for my brother while he is away in europe on holidays. Ive heard a bit about a couple boxes out there made for under the rear seat, but i havent been able to find any. What sites are these boxes avalible on, and will the midgate fold down?

Thanks

Good Luck

I have heard that J&L may have something?

If not Try Here!

They Say!
You can not put your vehicle in the "Truck" mode with the sub enclosure installed. But I think with some modification you may be able to!

(y)Here you go, I e-mailed the seller on the single box for '03-'04 and he said the mid gate will function 100%.

You can try to build these, which is what I am doing... I know are looking to buy boxes, but I do not think anyone is making this for sale yet. They fit Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 1 or 2 8" woofers.

Joe,
I can NOT WAIT to see your install :)

It's not what you think. The pair of 12's in the midgate went south and now I'm going with a boring old 10" under the back seat. Same as everybody else but it's what the guy recommended.

It should still sound great. ;D

Don't worry, the pair of 10's system will thump pretty well.
Here is my install.

I had to mount the AMP on the box and so I had to modify the seats (remove the underside panel of the long side seats) and also, it is no longer possible to convert without removing the box :(

It is very stealth though :)

I will eventually be replaceing this setup with a 15" Kicker L5 and and the 2 10" in the midgate but this is waiting on congress to fund the project ;)

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Nice setup RGuard. Do you know how much added clearance removing the bottom trim gave you? I ended up raising my seats about .75" to get clearance for what I needed to add under the seats. I contemplated removing the trim pieces but did not care much for the looks if you know what I mean.

Yeah but it'll pale in comparison to the installation he's just finishing up. He's wrapping up a project they did on a Nissan 350Z which was $35,000 in audio. Not a typo, thirty five thousand dollars in car audio. It's for a 16 year old kid to boot!!! I'll be taking some pictures of that one. You know, before the kid takes his new hot rod that daddy bought him and wraps it around a telephone pole.

Yeah but that Alpine decal will look just as good around the pole as it did on the front of his windshield :) Daddy must have one hell of a wallet, must be nice!

I had to remove it for clearence of the AMP, you get several inches in the middle (the center panel is flush with the bottom and not to the seat so there was a big hole there that gave me a good amount of clearance for "free" by removing it. However, the underside is not pleasing to the eye now and the piece that holds the drivers side seat cover together front to back is exposed and so I believe touches the cone under excursion (can't actually see but it sometimes sounds like it) I am pondering cutting the panel I removed to just remove the middle section and reattach the underseat piece for the drivers side.
I thought about raising the seat but I am 6'1'' and so I am already too close to the rear headliner (I also have the sunroof which drops the headliner a bit).
This setup works for me, I can rattle the rear view mirrors and get a descent thump going on in the truck (rear seat passangers do note and interesting massage effect ;) )
I want 15" for the midgate but unless santa makes a special trip for me this is on the back burner for now (hard to squeeze more $$$ out of the wife when I have a working solution :) )

... Are you kidding? 35k on the car... 35k in audio... I'd trade all of that for a used 911, but that's just me. chances are there is probobly another 5 or 10k under the hood. WOW. Must be rough to be 16 and have millions.

Interesting, the middle seat would be where I need the extra clearance. One thing you can do to add a little bit more clearance for your subs is throwing a couple of washers on the mounting bolts. You should be able to lift your seat .25" that way. Its such a little change you should not notice a difference but your subs may appreciate it :) I'm 6'3" or so and I have .75" on mine and I still fit in there with room to spare. My seat is also moved forward about .7"-.75" inches and I still have plenty of room for my legs.

The trick to squeezing out more money out of the old lady is to do HER vehicle first. I did her rice burner a couple of months ago with Alpine front to back and a custom sub enclosure in the hatch/trunk. Seems to have worked to my favor at least :)

The only problem with using that extra space in the middle is the seatback hit it when you are trying to convert and so makes it all but impossible to covert with box in place :(

I will try the washer trick, I am worried about excursion hitting the fabric under the seat and that little extra would make me feel better.

I like the idea of appeasing the wife with her own audio, but she is a grad student so we only had the $$ for the one ride  so not even a ricer to modify :( . No worries though she has many expensive habits (shopping and clothes come immediately to mind :p) I just need to appease one of those "needs" and that should get me the green light on project "THUMP", just need to find the 2 grand (one for her and one for the "project") ;)

Ahh yeah, clothing goes along way but imagine what you could get if you show up with something small and sparkly LOL! I'm one of those lucky few who married a woman who's into custom cars and performance so a new audio system or catback goes a lot further than diamonds in many cases :)

My 10" subs are actually going behind the seat so there are no boxes to hit when converting to "truck mode". I need the added clearance to fit another amp plus I have an XBOX to go in the there too. I have a sliding shelf I made where the XBOX attaches to so its easy to get to but it does raise it up off the carpet a bit ... I'm curious to see what kinda of clearance I'm looking at.

The washers worked fine for me before I got my aluminum lift blocks made. If you get the 1.25-1.5 inch diameter kind at home depot or lowes and stack 2 or 3 of em on each bolt you should be fine. I had 5 on each and I think it set me back a whopping 4 bucks all together. Cheap and easy and it will give your subs some more room.

It's done and it's pretty sweet. Didn't need to mess with raising the seats or anything, the seats still fold flat and it sounds great. (y)

Follow Up: I just had a chance to mess with the audio, and.......DAYUM!!! (y) (y) (y) (y) I hadn't messed with the sub control, which come to find out was only up about 20%. Once I cranked that and adjusted the EQ.........SUHWWEEEEEET!

Brain fart of the week/month/year. One of my buddy's wanted to hear the new sub so he stopped by my office. We both got in the truck and I fired it up..........no bass. ??? I looked at the amp, no red glow......checked out the sub control, not lit. :8: :8: :8:

After one day, about an hour of use, something's wrong. :7:

Just before getting out of the truck, I pulled my sunglsees out of the little storage compartment that I keep them in and notice something shiny back there. ???

Oh look, a hidden switch to turn the sub on and off. :-[

Flipped the switch, bass came back on, blood pressure came back down from 160psi and felt like a complete and total moron.

Joe can you share the price for Sub Amp & Install?

Box, sub, amp, sub control, switch that I discovered this AM and all hardware installed was $475.

He sells the box alone for $100 so if anyone wanted to replicate this set up, they could buy the box then get the rest of components locally, or just bring the box to a Circuit City or Best Buy and let them take it from there.

If anyone wants a box like this, PM me and I'll give you his name and number.

Joe

Have you heard the 4-6" JLs? Can you compare/contrast the two....

No, I haven't heard the four 6's. In fact, the only thing I have to compare it to is my last vehicle which had two 12's and I actually like this one 10 better.

I listen to a lot of different music (on the way to work this morning I listened to Clint Black and Rob Zombie, but not at the same time of course  ) but not a lot of, shall we say "bass-laden urban music". You know, the stuff that was rap, then it became gangster, then hip-hop and now is known as whatever Sean Combs, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Ididjlo Anudint or whatever moniker he goes by these days, calls it.

Anyway, back on the train of thought, for what I listen to adding this 10" sub to the factory Bose is about perfect for me. It's not even that audible outside the truck, which is good since I want it to sound good but not annoying to others at street lights, and compliments the factory six speaker very well.

Well, apparently, the 4-6s will not be good enough for me....which is not good, so I will turn to a midgate box of some sort, since I bump mostly "bass-laden urban music".... :(

Does anyone know the real difference in bass quality between an enclosure that has "upright" firing versus the "down fire" enclosures. I'm really considering purchasing the 10" single "down fire" enclosure made for the 2003-2004 Av.

Link: http://www.soundoffaudio.com/item.cfm/id/1227

Also, the upright has .87 cu ft versus the .5 cu ft. (which does make a difference with certain sub requirements).

One last thing, anyone know where I can find detailed installation instructions for adding these subs and amps to the factory bose?
