I guess I shoud report on my experience with the Vizualogic monitor in the visor product - in a word, SWEET! They don't admit to an Av application, and to be sure, the main visor does not lay just as snug to the roof as it did before, but pretty darn close. And the Color (you want to get the "shale") is oem - in fact the whole thing looks very oem. And the screen is very clear, even off-angle:

The monitor is "auto-on", which is nice (my only complaint about my Myron&Davis monitors is that they are not auto-on). The Viz monitor also has a little mini plug for Walkman-style headphones. Install is rather straightforward, although linig up the flat side of the hinge bar and inserting same into the main visor hinge properly requires some jiggering (major thanks to NYAVALANCHE who personally showed me how), plus they want you to shim the retaining clip to compensate for the extra weight of the visor, and this is minor surgery. But the look is very clean when done. Even the warning label (says no watching while driving) is an exact oem look too.

Looks great Jackalanche. Does it work with the AV in gear, if not is there a way to bypass the safety switch so it will operate while in gear?
Been thinking of adding one for the old lady to watch on trips.

Looks really sharp ....... leave it to glenn to know how to do something :)

AUAV - there is no safety switch (I beleive you are thinking of a switch that disables the monitor while in motion) per se, you are directed to wire it up in such a way that the monitor will only be powered when not in gear - ahhh, right >:D must have wired it wrong, 'cause it works just fine all the time.

You sure are right about Glenn (NYAVALANCHE) BlackAv - he has it all on his Av (I mean, if you want to see a real mod addict . . . .), AND he is willing to take time out his day and show you how to do it too.

I have a factory DVD player that is mounted overhead between the front seats. The passenger cannot see the screen. Would the visor monitor hook up to the factory DVD player? Has anyone tried it, and if so how did you install it?

The Viz monitor in demi-visor product uses good ol RCA plugs for audio and video input (I say audio because it has a headphone plug). While I do not have the factory system, I would think you would need to simply split the A/V output from the DVD HU and send one over to the visor monitor - just a patch-in job, so to speak.

jackalanche - Where did you mount the DVD player? I have been looking at getting the headrest model from visualize but I can't think of a good place to mount the DVD player.

my DVD player is a Myron & Davis AD270 unit, its a DIN sized unit that might have mounted in the cubby in the console but I have a GM cassette player there, so mine is mounted vertically in the center console, note that not all DVD players permit veritical mounting:

AV-in-console.jpg

That's the DVD player on the driver's side, my a/v switching unit is on the passenger side of the console. I mounted the remote eye for the remote control on a piece of velcro on that otherwise useless shelf just below the three 12v plugs. And of course the M&D monitors in the headrests each include a remote IR pickup that plugs into the DVD player (had to visit Radio Shack to get all the plugs nec to permit three sources of IR remote signal into the DVD player, and also for the RCA plug splitters to allow me to send the DVD player audio signal to the Av's head unit for speaker output, and to the the a/v switch unit for distribution to the three monitors, as the M&D monitors transmit IR audio the headphones, the Viz unit has a headphone plug).

and you Wrangler dual battery kit fans might recognize my battery manager switch located against the front side of the console!

still room in there for a few DVDs, etc.!

That's it, I'm carrying these at JP Customs. These are really sweet. Saw them at SEMA. Good Quality and totally "factory".

Jackalanche & BlackAv2002-Thanks for the nice words ;)

To-JPCustoms- while your at it, I am told they also make the headrests to match with the screens in them. (My next mod in the near future)

I think after Christmas I will add a Driver side visor screen when I do the headrests.

Your wife isn't gonna let you do it. I heard she put a pad lock on your wallet. LOL
Beside where in hell are gonna run any more wire? I thought that I was bad but you take the cake. You got more gadget than Sharper Image does.

Manny

for those of you who have never seen NYAVALANCHE's Av in person, let me give an idea: he has three handheld microphone units showing on one side of his front console (ok, so that means three different transmitting units mounted somewhere, plus the DVD player, plus the aftermarket HU, plus every other mod every mentioned on this site - I'm serious. The boy is only missing the rear cargo light pin switch, I think.

as for the M&D pre-fab headrest units, yes, they make them (only in the leather, no match for the diamond plate cloth found on the leather&cloth interior, I am advised) and several members have these installed. When I was shopping prices on the M&D monitors, the pre-installed headrests were not that much more . . . .

Larry from Valanca.com has them in his. He doesn't have leather interior and I saw his truck up close.

as for NYAVALANCHE having all those wires ran, you can't even see one of them. As for the three hand-held mics. One is a Federal Signal Siren and PA system, (which my wife is buying me for Christmass),. The he has a hand's free cellphone system hard wired for his Nextel. Then he's got the speakers for the radio's which are tucked awayin his center console. Everything installed professionally by himself.

Manny

Since when is christmas spelled with 2 s's ?hmmmmm

I think manny needs to NEVER SEE NYAVALANCHES TRUCK AGAIN. ? Manny calm down and take a deep breath you crazy modding fool

What can I say, but that I am Sicilian and always thinking of getting more S's (A$$'s)

Manny

I'm working on adding the visor monitors and the headrests monitors to the website. Look for them soon.

"Larry from Valanca.com has them in his. He doesn't have leather interior and I saw his truck up close."

Well, I do not mean to say no one has the M&D monitors in cloth headrests (I have them in my cloth headrests) but did Larry buy the unit pre-installed from M&D?

As for the topic, NYAVALANCHE also has the Vizualogic visor monitor in his Av as well.

You guys are killing me !!!!!

In defense, I have a pinswitch in the tailgate, only hooked up to the alarm. With the bedslide, its very rare
I need to put the bed lights on.

Manny, I am surprised at you. The wife gets whatever she wants, as long as I dont have a cap on what I can do.

You only got one of the 3 microphones right.
1=Federal PA4000 PA mic.
2=Kenwood UHF Radio
3=Kenwood High Band/ Low Band radio. (Dual band, single head)

And last Manny, you should tell your bride to get you some wheels instead of a Police siren, I dont want that call at 3am from NYPD to come down & bail you out.

So on the horizon, 1 driver side Viz monitor, 2 headrest monitors & I just saw a new 13inch flipdown that has my name on it.

Then I have to figure how to hook up a mobile TV satelite dish like on the motor homes, simuliar to the house one.

And by the way, for anyone who has or is putting a TV tuner, I think I finally found a soultion for the pioneer diversity antennas. Behind the cladding, where its open. If my calculations are correct, the plastic wont hurt the signal. May even be better than a on glass setup I had with limo tint in my Tahoe.

I know he bought them pre-installed but I don't know if they are from M&D

Manny

I have ordered the M/D prefabed heardrest with 5.6" monitors. They are being installed tomorrow. I will post pics and let you all know what I think. I have heard they are very nice though. The salesman tried to talk me into Audiovox monitors, I hear they are also very nice. :D

I'm glad to know that I can call you at 3am to bail me out of jail. LOL

But I'm still getting my siren. I had to answer a call of a guy with a broken Femur in my Av. Both buses were out and my crew and I were at the Harbor. I was dispatched by PD and I went with my crew in the Av. Everyone now calls my Av, "the Ambu-Lanche"
