Last December, I had the Viper/Python SST Remote Start/Alarm installed on my Avalanche.  It worked fantastic for several months, then started working occasionally?  I took it back to the retailer that I had purchased it from, and they IMMEDIATELY said "Bad Remote FOB".  I asked if this had been a reported problem, and they said "Oh yeah".  This has me concerned.  Once the warranty expires (12/28/07) I will be SOL on FOB replacement and these dang things are NOT cheap.......$150 for a fob replacement.  Has anyone else had issues with theirs?

Have you contacted Viper to see if there's been an updated version or some possible fix identified yet?

I will be contacting them tomorrow.  I don't want to be replacing fobs every 7 months at $150 a pop.

Haven't had any problem with mine yet?
Sure hope I don't either at the replacement cost.  :E:

Well, it seems the FOB was not the problem.  Somehow, my system lost its program.  It literally took them 90 seconds to get the system working yesterday.  I asked them why it had lost its program, and it seems that an extended period of no power will cause it to lose its thought process.  There have been several times that I have had the battery disconnected for extended periods of time to work on the wiring in the AV.

EVERYTHING on my Avalanche is working at the moment........woooohoooo!!!

That's great news John.
Have to keep the power thing in mind since I have a few mods to get done before STI.
I wonder if putting the system into Valet mode would prevent that from happening?

glad it wasn't the fob bro.  You might look into getting a cover for the fob that I ended up doing.  Had replaced 2 remotes within 6 months of each other until I bought a leather cover for it and this one has been rocking for about 1 1/2 years now.

Looking into one of these alarm systems.  How's the range in the real world?

Around how much was the system with installation?

I paid $750 and some change installed.  The range is EXCELLENT.  I have started it from as far away as 3/4 mile.  Fantastic system.

Vetman,

Where'd you get it installed?  Would you recommend them?  I've called around here and the best I can do so far is $650.  I'll be in DFW over Thanksgiving, so I can have it done there if the price is right.

A place called "Woody's Car Audio". They're located at 5300 Camp Bowie Blvd.
(817-737-7311) They've been in business for some 20 years.
They were recommended to me and I did some research on my own.
I would absolutely recommend them and have often.?

That's funny, I'll be in Houston over Thanksgiving.
