Hello all !! went by the MJ Sullivan dealership New London CT, beginning of the week and saw an 04 Avy with awesome 20" chrome rims/ Goodyears, stopped in today and the rims were now on an 04 Silverado!!!!! asked what was up and they have a deal set up thru GM with a customizing company out of MA, to do nerf bars, brush bars, rims, exhaust all kinds of stuff, so I asked what happened to the rims and they said they had to take them off because they voided the manufacturers warranty by altering the ododmeter because of tire size and that GM had no way of adjusting the Avy's computer to compensate for the larger tire!!!! HOLY COW!!! is this true has any body adjusted their computer for the tires? I have an 03 Avy and want to go to 20" ASA II's and Kumho's.

I have 20's too, and according to:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
with my 285-50/R20, my size is 31.2" where
with original tires was 31.6",
when my speedo reads 60 mph, i'm going at 59.3 mph
pretty close. :B:

So the implication of what you were told is...the Silverado's computer is adjustable for tire size and the Avalanche's is not...

B.S.

Now then...having declared that...what size are the tires that you saw? The PCMs of both are adjustable for different tire sizes within certain limitations...BUT...my opinion is you were told a bunch of c&%p...more likely...they are having problems selling modded trucks because...

a) they ALWAYS mark them up too much
b) few peeps want someone else's idea of a mod list

and they decided to move the tires to a different truck and see if it would sell any better...

edit: another thing that may be an issue...which of the two...is a 4X4...some 4X4 purists will scoff at the idea of 20's on a 4X4

I was told by a service manager once that service departments are allowed to adjust up ONE SIZE ONLY for tire size. It's not that they CAN'T, it's just that they aren't permitted to do so by GM.

Don't know if this is true, or how it may be different for selling new Avs, but they certainly are capable of changing.

I saw a set of "GM" 20's on a Silverado last time I went to my dealer. The window sticker said it had a special suspension package that went with them. :2:
