What Brand Air Intake do you recommend?

I am in the process of investing some money for a Cold Air Intake for my 2002 Chevy AV 5. 3L. ?I was going to purchase the K&N 77 Series because that seems to be the thing. ?After research and looking at all the other brands out there I have grown confused and undecided. ?The polished look gets my vote. ?But I have read that the Plastic tubes are better for the Cooler air. ?Any recomendations? I have looked at the following brands:

AEM Brute Force
K&N 77 Series or 57
S&B Air Intakes (Never see them anywhere but they do publish great ISO 5011 Certs that no one else seems to show)
AIR Raid

I am confused at this point and if i am going to invest this much money I want to make a good purchase. ?I figured who would be best to ask if not the actual product users as you! Please help!? :help:

I've got the Volant CAI on my 02 and I've had no problems w/ it and would say it is one of the best. The K&N does have that flashy polished tube, but is not a true CAI, w/o that fully boxed and sealed case for the filter it isn't going to get you 100% cold air for the engine. Now I'm not going to say that the Volant is going to be 100% either but it is going to bring in a lot more cold air due to its oversize opening on the bottom of the box as well as the fenderside opening. You can also get a ram air tube for it, but if you get offroading, I don't recommend it. This is my opinion, I'm not sure if you looked at it, and I do know it is a fairly high priced system, but again it is a true CAI and is at the front of the pack, you won't be dissapointed w/ its performance and durability.

Sorta  :jacked: But not really just shiowing him what an Outlaw looks like.  He did not have it listed.

By the way this is something I should have done 4 years ago.  (y)

Which ever one will give you the best deal on the price.  I for one, love my K&N FIPK

Trafficman, how was the install??

I just received my Outlaw last week from the MCM raffle and will get it installed at a GTG at the end of the month. Was it straight forward or did you run into issues?  Thanks for the help and sorry for the thread jack.

I installed the K&N 77. ?It dresses up the engine compartment and I used their products in the past. ?Whichever brand you use it will be an improvement over the stock system. ?

I purchased the GM Performance CAI kit and I am happy with it..? It sounds great too when you step on it.

I have the K&N FIPK cold air intake on my 03. Sounds like a very large vacuum cleaner when tromped down on! I had to do a little modding in order to clear the fan blade. Mick

I know a member who was so annoyed by that sound that he pulled it out and went back to stock.

GM Performance CAI kit looks sweet

Did that replace the entire airbox or just the tube and the airbox cover. Looks great!

Sorry Wolf, I was without a computer for a while.

It replaced both the tube and the airbox.

I LOVE that GM kit, one question though, Where are the openings to let in the air, Is it like a voilant(sp) with the fender side or is it more like the GM stock, also does anyone know if this is available for an 05, cuz it is beautiful!!! Sorry for the  :jacked:

The air opening is to the fender, just like the stock location.  They provide a foam seal to go between the fender and the air box.

They do make it for the '05's, but the GM Accessories Zone website doesn't list it anymore for that year.

I would ask at the parts counter at a dealership.  They might have an older catalog.  I am guessing it should be the same as the '06 or '07 Classic (I don't recall for sure if the did an '07 Classic for the Avalanches)

On the GM Part Direct website they list it. Part Number 17801346

Thanks a ton man, I've been lookin at somethin to get exhaust or intake wise, and the extra cash this will cost intake wise is well worth it. Is the performance been up to par for you?(noticable hp gain, smoother acceleration, increase/decrease in mpg)

I just checked with a parts desk here and they would have to order it in for $400 dollars, yikes, I've seen it online for 350 or less, is the dealer gouging me or do they always charge retail.

Just ask the parts guy if he can help you out on the price at all.  If you don't ask, they will charge you full retail everytime.  Also, if you bought your avalanche there or go there a lot for service issues, let him know that.  It may help.

I've got the Fram BOOST CAI System on my '06 Av.? It's nearly identical to the AEM Brute Force CAI and also has the Dry Synthetic Filter!! (y)
