Hi All;

I don't think I have been this excited over a truck since I was a kid. I usally buy one every year excepy now I won't be able to. I went ahead and purchased my new truck with the intention of keeping a vechicle a long time.

I lost my leg from a Harley accident and just went ahead and bite the bullet after reading all the good things said here about AV's. I am now medically retired at 48 and have three children around the country, so I would like to visit them a little. The comfort of the truck is something I have never experienced in a pickup before. My limb does not hurt resting on the seat in the AV like it did in my 2003 Silverado bench. Oh, I didn't get any accident money, the lady was uninsured, so I have been on my own.

I really wanted to know if there are any tips or tricks that could be passed along to me. I have a 2004 2WD, without the plastic panels. Mine only listed for 32,335. It had plenty of comfort for me, but if I need to know anything, or do anything, I would appreciate any tips from the experts here. I have been reading for a week here before I went out and purchased it today. I have to make it last 10 years. that was my promise to myself.

So if anybody has any tips, please pass them along if you don't mind. I need all the help I can get. It really is a neat truck with all the storage compartments, rubber mats, mid-gate, take out window, and super room inside for people. Are there any experiences anyone wants to pass along. I did use a Hypertech programmer on my last truck, and really loved the results. Has anybody used one on the 2004 5.3?

Steve

Welcome to the club.......

I suggest browsing the forum some more.....and reading posts that may interest you and commenting and ask questions in those....or start new threads i the specific area of interest.....

As for programmers we have an entire section under performance dedicated to computer enhancements....we have tons of posts on the subject and I am sure you will find some info on the hypertech and other brands.....

Good luck and again welcome

Welcome to the club! I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but I certainly am glad that it wasn't worse and that you've recovered well from it. The forums are packed with info regarding accessorizing and modifying an Av, so you should have days and days of good reading ahead of you.

Well Chevy04, you've got your AV, you've got your health, you've got family, so, all what's left .... oh, yeah

:B: ENJOY :B:  your AV  :B:

You've already done the "first, best thing" that you could do. You have found this site!!! Anything you ever thought about and some that you have never thought about an AV will be found here. Someone said spend a "couple of days" looking it over...that will just scratch the surface. Be prepared to spend a lot of time looking it over. Any questions..just ask..you will get an answer.

Welcome to the AV Family and Happy Modding.

How 'bout the Amber DRL's first??? ;)

Glad to hear you're as delighted with yours as I am with mine.
Two reasonably priced mods that I think you should consider are:
1) all 4 on High - Very low price, not much work, hugely better lighting.
2) Taylor ThinderVolts (TV50) plug wires - model 98005. About $80 (same price as stock from NAPA) - will last the lifetime of the truck, get rid off a slight hesitation off trailing throttle, and give you a smoother idle. No big change, but a small but significant one.
Best of luck visiting around the country, brother.... :)

Welcome Chevy04!!

You will find a wealth of information here. Sorry about your accident but glad to hear your AV has helped the healing process some.

For starters--how about some Amber DRL's? You can tell most of the members of CAFCNA because they have them. Was my first "mod." I would also suggest, since you want the truck to last a long time, that you change out the oil to Mobil 1 oil and a Mobil 1 filter at the first oil change and stay with it from then on.

As for the other things---Hypertech---exhaust--headers--lifting--lowering--decals--etc. etc. You will find tons of stuff here.

But be careful!! You will find that there are sooooooo many things to do you will eventually be hearing

"Do you know how much money you have spent on buying %&*#$$ for that #$#^%&^&* truck this last month? :D: :D:

It's just lends itself to it!!! >:D

Again, welcome and get those Amber DRL's! Silverstars of course!! ;D
