What don't you like about you Avalanche?

Maybe this is a bit petty, but I love the power running boards getting into the truck, but I don't like them getting out.
There's a button to turn them either on or off, but it'd be nice to just use them when getting in...

I don't like the fact that the my 07 sits lower than the 06.  Even the 07 Z71 sits lower.

With my "07" my dash is black, and so is my instrument panel, and at certain times of the day I have trouble seeing the numbers and the needle. I at this point have to turn on the lights to see the gauges. I wish they had put a different color in the gauges than black.

You can always buy a new gauge cluster from one of the members Primepower  >:D

I drove a 95 Yukon for 15 years and it was easier to put and get stuff out of the rear/ and also having to deal with the bed panels, taking apart etc.    But this AV rides so much better, I ain't complaining. (y)

He those are problems that money can solve easily... >:D
A Bedslide to get the items out over the tailgate so you don't have to reach for them. Then you could get one of the power bed covers and just push a button to lift them off.
I know we all don't have the money though. (I have a Cargo Pro slide but not the auto covers).

mine pretty much is....waterproof. I've been through some seriously nasty rainstorms and have never had more than just a trace of water in a corner or two of the bed.

Mine too (pretty much waterproof)...haven't noticed any significant amount of water in the bed following rain.

:help:

Okay guys I'm a little upset...perhaps I shouln't be and it's probally my own damn fault but I never saw this one coming....
I just purchased a 2010 Avalanche.  It has the  HD towing package and the towing mode option as well...
Here's the kick in the ass...it only has a 3.08 rear axle ratio.  That means it can only tow 5,000lbs.  My minivan could tow 3,500!!!!
I like the truck but I expected more than 5,000lbs.
Please tell me I'm wrong...please!!!!!

If the gear set is the only limiting factor, couldn't you just have a set of 3.73's or 4.10's installed?  ???

Just finished checking the sales brochure for my 07 5.3 4x4 - the brochure states:

Weight -carrying hitch limit: 5,000 lb trailer with 600-lb. tongue weight. Weight-distributing hitch and sway control required over 5,000 lb. trailer weight.

As for the engine size (Vortec 5300 V:cool:  and whether it's 2WD or 4x4:

2WD - max trailer weight = 7200 w/3.73 axle ratio OR 8200 w/4.10 axle ration
4x4 -   ..............................  7000 and 8000 respectively

BTW...are you SURE it has a 3.08? That makes no sense with the HD trailering package... I just checked - Chevrolet's website says the 2010 Avalanche w/HD trailering package includes the 3.42 axle ratio

Hi Scottq60,

Thanks for the reply.
Sadly, I'm looking at the sticker on that was on the side window and it shows,  rear axle ratio of 3.08 and the HD trailering package.
I didn't appreciate at the time of purchase you could have a HD package with an axle ratio of 3.08...doesnt make sence!

Look in your glove box for any of these RPO codes

GT4      Rear axle, 3.73 ratio
GT5      Rear axle, 4.10 ratio
GU5      Rear axle, 3.23 ratio
GU6      Rear axle, 3.42 ratio

the complete list is here

http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,96887.msg1536768.html#msg1536768

those stickers in the window don't mean crap, the RPO list is exactly what you have, I don't know if they even make a 3.08

Check for the RPO code as suggested by GoNavy429...also....does the 3.08 axle ratio showu up under "standard equipment" on that window sticker or specifically under the listed "HD trailering package"?

I checked the codes and none of the four options were there...GT4, GT5, GU5 GU6.  The only GU option is GU4.
As for the sticker the 3.08 is listed under the heading "Options & Pricing" and it says Rear Axle Ratio 3.08  $0.00

Since the 3.08 is the Standard Issue, look under the "Options & Pricing" section for the items that were additional to the Base price. This will be section that displays the HD Trailering Package. Further down it should list the 3.42 Rear Axle.

YMMV

Found two more codes

GU2    Rear axle, 2.73 ratio
GU4    Rear axle, 3.08 ratio

but I didn't think they were used in trucks, any truck, new for 2010 I guess, trying to improve fuel econo ....

Might be because of my height, but the only thing I would change is the shifter, When I go to put it in drive on my '07 it feels like I have to take it lower than feels normal to me. (But I have not had a shifter like this in years! So, it might be I am not use to it.) But, while the shifter is in Drive and I look to turn the radio up I can see the knob because the shifter is in the way so I have to lean over to look to see what I am about to touch (Again its a new to us truck so this might even change as we get use to the controls.) Everything else we love about or AV!

my 09 has hd trailering option with 3:08 axle. And yes it was for fuel economy ratings.

While I appreciate the 3.08 axle ratio is for the improvement of fuel economy I guess at time of purchase I didn't realize the impact it would have on towing capacity.  I purchased this vehicle for a number of reasons...safety, quality and capability.  I guess I thought (wrongfully) that any Avalanche with an HD towing package and tow haul mode surly must be able to tow the advertised 7,000lbs.

I'll be honest my Uplander minivan could tow 3,500 and I never dreamed the new Avalanche with HD towing would only be able to tow 5,000.  Perhaps this is counter to this boards objectives however I feel like a sucker and after owning the vehicle for seven weeks I never ever thought I would feel like I want to take teh truck back.

When I talked earlier about capability more specifically what I meant was I wanted a truck that would be able to tow a trailer for camping with my kids.  Having a towing capacity of only 5,000 reduces my trailer options from what I was hoping was bout a 25 foot trailer down to about 15 foot trailer...not good!!!

Anyway guys I know this was my fault and not GM's, I just never thoughts an Avalanche would be limited to 5,000, not in my wildest dreams...
Cheers,
-Bob-

Is it possible that your 2010 model is limited to 5000 lbs UNLESS you use weight distributing hitch and anti-sway bars, as is my 2007 which has 3.73 gears?

Did you read somewhere in your window sticker or owner's manual that it is absolutely limited to 5000 lbs REGARDLESS of type of hitch and anti-sway bars

That just doesn't make sense to me that it would be limited to 5000 lbs.

I wouldn't worry too much, after all we are still talking about a V8 with over 320 hp, just put you on some air bag assist for the rear end, use the tow haul mode and go ahead and put that 25 foot trailer on and go. your not going to burn up the trans, add an oil cooler and you definitely  won't, maybe add a class IV hitch.  The one that comes with GM vehicle is more like a III or III and a half.  Unless your going to haul this trailer around every day, then the rear axle ratio is not that big a deal.  Don't make more of this then it really is.....you also have to remember those figures GM puts out are not absolute, they were vetted by the legal dept.......not engineers, there is going to be some fudge factor 20 or 30% at least...my 2 cents FWIW

edit:  Forgot to mention, I have the HD tow in an 2008 with 3.73 rear, guess what, I am still limited to 5000 because of the hitch.  Maybe GM just decide to match up the hitch axle ratio combo.  If I wanted to go strictly by posted limits, there is always a fudge factor.  People forget about the hitch limitations.  Losing the trailer is much more scary then burning up the trans.  Burning up the trans just puts you on the side of the road, losing the trailer kills somebody.

Just found this...so I guess you're correct to be disappointed, if these numbers are accurate (found on AOL Autos):

That said...I agree wholeheartedly with GoNavy429...AND when I was looking at the options on Chevy's website, I believe the HD Trailering package HAD to be ordered with the oil cooler and other things, so I believe you're set.

This is what throws me about yours having 3.08 gears....this is straight from Chevy's website:

# Trailering Package:

Trailering Package, heavy-duty -  includes 3.42 rear axle ratio, 2-speed active transfer case, external transmission oil cooler and engine oil cooler, provides increased trailering capabilities. Included with Texas Edition and Regional Value Package.

mine's not 07 or up and i haven't had mine long yet but im distrubed at the lack of lift options for my 2500. 2 choices it seems..... either front leveling/Tbar or 6" suspension, nothing in-between that i can find :E:
otherwise i love it!
