I am gettting a backup camera installed next week. I want to have evidence for the wife about backup difficulties. If anyone has backed into something, please post here (y)

The Midget has hit a Few Things :

Big White parking Post ( With Mirror )

My Smacura , My 2500 4x4, mailbox .....

Sorry No Pics :E:

Cement wall in car park at work (about 10 times).
Four cars, a tree, some bushes in my yard (20 - 30 times).

NOTHING!.....Been lucky and careful so far

Yeah.....last month while Christmas shopping.

Some damage to my RR bumper area plus major door damage to a Chrysler.

Just one car while parallel parking. I got out and saw I hit his license plate, which looked like it had been hit 60 times before, so I felt better. Still getting used to an 18+ foot long vehicle, but until I do, I'm getting out numerous times while both backing up and pulling forward to park in order to check distance. Don't care in the least whether I look like a dork or not.

Tree and a Mustang. The Mustang started backing out after I was already backing up.

Was the tree moving too? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

The only thing I've backed into was my camping trailer because I didn't have it lined up correctly with the hitch. Fortunately.....no damage. (y)

Treehugger, maybe you need to clean those windows >:D I don't think a backup camera would help you, you just might need front and rear Stealth bumpers ;D

I waxed a tree and had to replace the top piece of cladding on the tailgate and realign the clips that held the covers over top the bed.

This camera is definetely worth the money I think. I backed into 2 cars w/ my old F350, and the visiblity is much worse w/ the AV. I am scared every time I backout of a spot in a parking lot. I think backup sensors should have been standard equipment for the AV :6:

Hey wait till you have a boat trailer with no boat on it and try to back down the ramp without hitting anything. LOL Now that was a site to see.

Funny story about backing into stuff,
Back in Oct. 03 when I was test driving the truck at the dealer in CT, and i pulled back into the lot, the truck was backed into a spot next to two hummers when i took it out, so i wanted to put it back in the spot. So I backed it in and hit the rock wall behide me. I got out, and saw that i had scrached the bumper a little, didnt matter anyway becasue I bought the truck anyway.

:B:

Dave,

I think I mentioned this at the GTG BBQ but the wifey backed into one of those concrete filled posts. Yep, she owes me a bumper. The bumber cover itself only has a little stress discoloration so if I had the tools to straighten the bumper, I would.

Blue_03 aka "Gadget" installed a camera in/on his '03 (I'm sure there are plenty of others that have done it as well.) He also has a boat and said the camera is invaluable when dealing with that and of course, he likes the extra view when backing out of any parking space. Sounds like it was a very wise investment and I'm sure it will be for you, too. I think when he installed it, he had the image mirrored (ya know, flipped about the y-axis) so the image would appear on the vid screen as if he was looking in a mirror. Might want to ask him, just to be sure. Seems like a great idea.

Good luck!

Oh, how did the repair work relating to the snapped tailgate cables come out? I hadn't seen an update in that thread but I could have just missed it...

Cheers,

-Joe

One thing, and freakishly at that.

Father-in-Law's Nissan pickup had been staying here for a few months. I had stopped to check mail, walked through grass. Grass was wet. Got in Av, backed up driveway (100' or so) and wsa about to brake and turn over to park next to the Nissan.

Stabbed the ledal, wet shoe slipped right off, and that was all it took - *crunch*

Left R of my bumper is a bit disfigured. I spent a bit of time putting a new bumper, filler and fender on the Nissan. Stuff folded up like a beer can. Amazingly, grille had no damage, lights didn't either, merely three metal parts.

Pulled old off, straightened a few mounts, put new on and sprayed it. While he knows it happened, he can't figure out what was replaced.

In my case, backup system would not have helped, just dry feet ;) I swapped mats out from the rubber "agressive" ones to the matching carpeted ones I retained from my Tahoe that afternoon.

I had just gotten my AV when I was helping my work change buildings.
I was backup up to a loading dock, It looked like I had plenty of room , but then BANG smacked the hitch against the dock! No damage! I was looking at the top of the tailgate not the bumper... I have learned my lesson! :E:

Hope this helps with the wife! :2:

A metal post. Lucky for me I was driving less than 2mph. No damage, no marks, no problems, and no regrets. This one and only minor incident occurred before I installed SnakeEyes.
