Just wondering whats out there becasue I can't find any online. And whats the most hp u can get out of one. Thanks

Do a search and look in the performance/engine mods section..

You have Hypertech programmers, Superchips, and Predator.
These are handhelds that attach to your computer.

There is also a complete reprogram of the PCM (Computer)
where you do a core exchange and replace your factory
pcm with one thats been programmed for HP..(thats
what westers garage is)

But do a search and you will find lots of good information.

Aetatis.

Got a Hypertech for sale if your interested....$250 includes shipping:)

Used it on my 2500 Av with no problems:)

BusterAv

Send me a Pm or Email if interested

Really interested in your Hypertech if it's still for sale. I have a 2003 2500. Will yours work?

Also, is the Hypertech the one that lets you take the different fuels (I always get the Predator and Hypertech confused).

Thanks.

I have a Superchips Programmer and it works great. The problem with Westers is that you're stuck with the program they send you, so there is NO flexibility. The Superchips programmer lets you change whatever you want...anything from 87 Octane to High Performance with 91 Octane. A change only takes about 10 minutes max.

Look around. There are some good deals on the internet. TByrne Motorsports will probably match anyone's price.

Sorry Homerun Hitter, but I already bought it form Buster. And I have to say it's AWESOME! So I suggest you go out and get one. ;D

Is Superchips and Hypertech the same product? If so, it seems as though people like that product. Again not sure if I'm talking about the Predator or Hypertech...I know one only wants the high octane and is much more detailed.

Guys what kind of hp/torque gains have been "gotten" from predator or westers on the 2500? can u do some extreme programming as well?

also anyone know if u can get the westers to just work on the tow mode for racing like the pred can?

Just did the Superchips on my 2500, loved the result. My unit lets you program for "Performance", "Performance Towing", and 87 Octane. Mine is set up for the towing, what a lot of balls. You MUST use 91 octane for the Performance or Performance Towing programs but it seems to be well worth it!

I did not do any HP or 0-60 testing before I changed the program, sorry. It's easy enough to switch back but I also did a cat back Magnaflow Exhaust at the same time. It now sounds as good as it runs. Not to loud....not to soft.....it's just about right.

The guys at the shop told be that if I did an intake mod (intake & MAF sensor) with the exhaust and the superchip I could get a solid 77.9 HP increase with the three mods together. I'm more of a boater than a motor head so I don't know if these numbers are right or not. I do like the idea of adding 78HP to my 340 HP stock!

Well, this is a interesting topic for sure but I think it's been discussed a milliom times or so.

the best performing avalanche that i've seen is Dragonslayers. He uses the Diablo Predator.

I guess it's personal preference.

Sorry for rehashing the great time we're having fixing up our Avy's. I didn't even know this site existed until a month or so ago. ???

Pete16:

I am really interested in your experience w/ the Superchips. How is the performance and mpg.

I tow also (I see you have a Hi-Performance boat ;D)
and want to buy a Chris Cat.

Avalon,

I just did the chip but have not done a "true test" with MPG. For starters it looks like about a 1 MPG increase over stock but I also did the exhaust at the same time????

As for the towing I'll be towing tomorrow and Friday for the first times since the chip & exhaust, I'll get back to you. ;)

I wonder if anyone monitoring this can respond....

I was looking through Ebay at different programmers that might be available. I have found a couple of Hypertechs that look like they would work on my vehicle (right model #)....to make sure I emailed Hypertech's tech support division to see if they would answer the question.

This is how they responded:

John
A Programmer keeps the stock vin# and computer calibrations stored so it can be reconnected to the original vehicle to be programmed back to stock or just to make changes. It will not be able to be used on another that it is intended to be used on unless the first vehicle has been programmed back to stock. You must have a Programmer per vehicle if you want them both programmed at the same time.

If the unit back to stock it will be clear and ready to use on another vehicle of the same year and engines listed on the back of the programmer. Whether the unit works or not depends on several factors. If the next vehicle has been updated by GM with new calibrations not available to us when the programmer was made it will not work. The only way to know for sure whether the unit will work is to hook the unit up and see if it recognizes the vehicles computer. If so you're ready to go. If not it will give you an error message "calibration not found" or something similar. Our warranty is for the original purchaser for as long as you own the vehicle the unit is originally installed. Once a programmer is sold or used on a different vehicle the warranty is void. Thanks

Jim

Now my problem is do I believe him or are they just trying to sell new product. I've read other people on these threads buying used product, but if you read Hypertech's response, it would lead you to believe that they would never work.

???????

When you buy a "used" programmer on E bay you are taking your chances. Make sure you are dealing with someone with sufficient feedback. My advice is buy a new one from one of the "powersellers". Troll for a while and get a sense of the price. For a HPP3 it skould be around $300 plus shipping. Predators are more $, but more tuneable.

I have neen happy with Hypertech, I have it in my 94 TA and a 2000 Yukon XL 5.3.

If you go for a used HPP3 correspond w/ the seller and make sure they returned the stock tuning to the vehicle.

Avalon

Sorry but I'm having a tough time getting "real" results. What I mean is that you have to drive the same way/time/course/roads to get the same comparative MPG results (true results).

I just reprogrammed the AV for the "performance" mode. It was initally programmed for the "performance towing" mode. In a week or so I'm going for the "87 octane" mode. My AV always ran great on 87 so we'll have to see what's up.

I am able to say that the "performance towing" mode was great for towing. I have a very heavy boat/trailer combination with a gross weight of 11,400 to 11,500 Lbs. and the engine seemed to have more punch/torque with some firm, crisp, shifts from the trans.

I'll keep you posted. ;)

If you shop around, you can find a Hypertech for around $300 new from some of our supporting sponsors. Most of the big chains sell it for $325 to $350.

I have used the Hypertech and it worked for what I wanted to do - recalibrate speedo and a touch more performance (I stick with regular gas).

i want to know more about this..  we should have started a poll.  is there a similar topic with a poll.  what is the difference between programmers?

There have been many debates. There have been some polls also, I think.. I prefer the Predator, I have 2 of them. From what I understnd, the Superchips only works at WOT. I prefer i tto work all the time.Plus I have used my predator to adjust tire sizes, troubleshoot and reset codes. I like it better, but that is JMO.

ok cool.  thanks Ov..  i am gonna get the laptop swing mount thing that DougD said,  then i am gonna borrow 1 of your ok?

I don't think the preditor can be "borrowed" I think they are vin locked (at least the older ones).
good luck,
Damon
