What is a great tire for ride and durability what should you stay away from?

295x50 or 305x

I like the aggressive look of the Pirelli, the Nitto and the Falken
But not impressed with the look of the GT2 or Proxy
for a truck

What has been you experiance?

Howdy...I'm a newbie; however, was a GM at a tire store for several years....did an awful lot of adjustments on Pirelli's...liked the tires; however, they just never held up well for any of my customers in either passenger or truck tires...just a thought when your plunking down the kind of dough you probably will! :cautious:

i have:
Wheels--- 22"x8.5 Epic Claw Type 827
Tires------ P295/50R20 (115H M+S) Falken Ziex S/TZ 01

the ride is real nice, handling is great and seems to get better at higher speeds. only drawbacks are that it does get a little squirrely when driving on city streets with ruts at about 40mph. as for the wear, i have about 10k miles and they seem to be wearing ok? the jury is still out on that one.

No rubbing at all with the 295's?

Could you elaborate a little more on the issues you've noticed when "driving on city streets with ruts at about 40mph"

TIA

I just bought some 22" with 305/45/22 Falken tires that I had to send back because the front tires were rubbing on the inner wheel well how did you get past that?

I love my Pirelli Scorpion Zeros. Great handling tire. They are 305/45/22. My truck is lowered and I have zero rubbing with them. Plus... you gotta love the red scorpion on the tire wall.

Does nobody around here like Michelins but me ???

I have consistenly been able to get over 60K miles out of various Michelins over the years, although I don't have experience with Truck/SUV Michelins. Anyone here running Michelins on your Avalanche, and if so, what model and size. Thanks....

David

P.S. I agree, those Epics look really nice...

Excellent luck here over the years with the Michelin LTX M&S DavidW55. Very smooth riding tire that always went a long way...anywhere from 50-60K depending on the application; however, although they are available in the stock sizes, getting into the 20's, availability was nil as of a few months ago...they kept promising the 20's; however, I never saw them EXCEPT on the Dodge 4Dr. 1/2 ton with a sport package. When I called Michelin, they denied they existed...until I gave them the DOT code. We found 6 in a wharehouse in Texas...and had to trade a second born child to get a replacement for a dealership that needed one replaced ASAP. Also, I have to admit they were not as sporty lookingas some of the other 20's available out there....but the ride and longevity is superb! ;D

Well, I have Goodyear Eagle GT II's on my NEW 20's. I will post pics when I find a bright sunny day!!

Big Michelin Fan myself
[especially with the extra goodies Iv'e gotten , car cleaning kit, FRS radios, and currently a PDA]

But very disapointed they do not do a quality 20"

I'm surprised the GT 2 is leading in the pole, given it is a P tire >>> maybe cause wheel co's package with the cheapest?

I think the Pirelli Zero, has the best tough look, tread and sidewall, but will heed all advice!

Big Red
did you use a marker, or did they come that way cause that was my first thought

OK, so here is a pic.....even though the quality sucks. ?Better pics to come as soon as PLANETAV gets up here and buys his rims too!!!!! >:D >:D ?Payed $1650 for 20's with tires mounted balanced lugs and chrome stems. ?

The picture doesn't do the wheel justice. As soon as I get good pics I will post them.

I assume their StZ-o4's?
The rubbing may have to do with rim width or wheel offset?

Wiki
Great look
Lots of crome is impressive and
looks like a strong wheel

The GT2s actually cost more than the LSs but not near the Pirelli and Falkens. They have a square shoulder, which I prefer in a wide tire.

I would have loved to get the Falkens  but thought they were over kill for at truck and too pricey (this from someone who used a rewards program and only had to come up with $170 out of pocket for tires & wheels ;))

well, i have always owned chevy trucks, and i think that they all have a little too much assisted stearing to begin with. i guess what i mean by that is that you can steer with just one finger. so on top of the assisted steering and the falkens having a very aggressive tread pattern the truck kind of wanders at lower speeds. what i am calling ruts are like when they do a new chipseal then let people drive through it before its fully cured it kind of leaves ruts?.?.
no, no rubbing at all with the 295s
as you can tell i failed writing class. hope this makes some kind of sense

i have 20s with 295s, so no rubbing. i did see an av with 22s though that he just cut out the lower part of the inner well. i thik all it did was expose the bottom of the radiator overflow bottle, or windshield fluid bottle whichever one is there. still looked clean though

i should also say that maybe i'm blowing it out a little bit because my wife drives it about 90% of the time and she really doesn't have any complaints

Well, I took my 20's back. :6: Couldn't stand the ride :6: The stock 17's ride so much smoother than 20's. I might have had a bad tire or rim, but they insisted the wheels balanced out and were OK. Got a refund and went on my way.

WOW

I knew the guy. He was cool about it. They shook at 60 mph and it was the rear and front. Felt it in the wheel and in the seat. This type of shake did not go away with speed either. The faster you went, the worse it shook. They tried everything to balance it out....hub centrics, extra long lug nuts, recalibrated the balancer....everything. It was just not meant to be. I will get some more from him but a different brand. First I have to get this bad taste out of my mouth >:D

I finally got my new Wheels.. Thanks to cough..Wiki...cough... ;D

I will take a better pictures, just got home and wanted to share them with ya'll. sorry if it's dirty.
