I've bought a GM Super Lockpick from coastaletech (despite some of the not so good reviews from these boards; so far so good) and I'm planning to install it with a Parrot CK 3200 bluetooth interface (the one with a color LCD screen and voice recognition).? I'm trying to figure out where to locate the little controller (about 2 1/2 inches square).? See http://www.parrot.biz/usa/products/3200ls-color
Option 1: drill a hole in the fake wood to the left of the factory nav screen and double-stick tape it there.? To go back I would have to buy a replacement trim panel.? Location is convenient, for sure, but it will have a negative effect on the look of the panel.
Option 2: On overhead panel next to sunroof controls.? Out of the way, but a little awkward to see; the unit would have to be mounted on some sort of wedge or gimbal to point it at the driver, and it's still a bit of neck craning to get to it.? The trim piece would have to be drilled to mount it and run wires.
Option 3: (my first choice, if it could be done) fit a shaped sheet metal plate of some sort (like the Panovise sort of devices, though they don't seem to have the right thing) behind the trim just to the right (or left) of where dash starts to curve up for the instrument cluster.? I like that it would be removeable/reversable, and that's a nice, out of the way location that is still easy to reach and see.? The trouble is coming up with the right mounting bracket...? Any ideas?
Option 4: One of the "slots" on the vent in the top of the dash next to the driver's door doesn't actually carry in air (it is closed off).? That vent just snaps in.? The LCD is very light, so I could epoxy in a small wooden or metal bracket to hold the LCD on top of this vent without disturbing the air flow.? This location puts the controller a little further away than ideal, but it does keep it out of the way and would be pretty cheap to reverse.? The wires would run under the A-pillar cover.? Right now I'm leaning toward this.
One option I'm not considering is mounting it directly to the dash itself as I expect that piece would be very, very expensive to replace if I wanted to reverse the install later!
Also, one installer suggested the nook beside the steering wheel until I pointed out that once you have the key in place and Drive selected on the gearshift you can't see that area at all.
Anyway, any thoughts, recommendations, or experience on where to put a gadget like this *in an '07* is appreciated!
If anyone wants to comment on the choice of hardware, it's not yet too late to put in something else!
BTW, for those still searching, the PAC Model TELL-5VID apparently just came out.? It is a bluetooth interface that displays phone numbers and such by driving video into the aux input of the display.? However, it still needs its own control, and you would lose the ability to control the nav and such while it was in use, without getting the complete integration advantage (eg., being able to call numbers you find in the Nav database).
