Skidd, distance is a BIG issue unfortunately!! If I lived close to a border, I would get ALL my stuff in U.S. ; but it is about 3 days drive in EACH direction.... so mail-order it is..... :-[

Hey YakMar,

Is that up hill both ways? ???

WC

Yakmar,

Do you know somebody in the US who can get them for you and then ship them up there, or would that be too much money?

What does UPHILL have to do with it?? :8: :7: (y) <- That LAST icon is NOT a "thumbs up" ... think about it!! >:D

Hey Yak, the "Uphill" statement was a joke. Here in the states (I'm sure it happens in CA too) the old folks will tell stories how they had to walk to school, in the rain and snow, UPHILL both ways. It's something to add to a story to make it sound worse, even thought it's hardly possible.

Myself, I was going to comment on your statement that it is a 3 day trip in EACH direction. I'd like to find the place you can drive to in 3 days, then it only take 1 day back. :) (y) And that is a thumbs up.... :)

Yeah Yak, looks like Ygmn has got some room for you on his balcony in New Orleans. I'm guessing that would be a 5 day drive... probably all down hill. ;)

Thank you Craig, ;)

I first heard about "uphill both ways and "barefoot"" from a Newfie when I spent some extended time in British Columbia. I guess the Yak had his eyes crossed at the moment.

CatDancer, "a million humble apologies" for taking out my rotted-ness < is that even a word? > at the Stinking Canadian DriverFx site on you.... if I had thought of it that way, I would have figured it out.... on that note, you can purchase the tires FOR ME and send them if you wish!! I will sent you a post-dated cheque... uhm, does 2006 sound ok ? ;) (y) ( note, that IS a THUMBS UP for you!! )

Darryl!

Hey YakMan,

I just realized you are a Darryl. Just about everyone I know from NF is a Darryl. Is there any truth to the Newfie jokes? ???

No need for apologies. Craig summed it up well for the rest of us to realize what I was doing. I?m sorry for the confusion.

I really like the way YGMN came through and you should really consider my suggestion to use the new tires as suitcases and pay a little bit more with excess baggage. Kim would think it?s another YakMar adventure!!!!

About the check, I think DO, Chief/General ?, is in charge of checks. Maybe he can get the group buy discount! (y)

Man, with all this in the thread, maybe I shouldn't admit my ancestors come from Nova Scotia! hee hee hee ;D

I are from Nover Scotia ;) (y)

Yak, would you consider buying the ST/Z 04 for 211 each US plus about 200 shipping?

-> Most of us Newfies are named Darryl, it avoids a LOT of confusion!! ;)
-> Y6GMN has not confirmed his ADDRESS yet therfore I cannot find his Balcony!!
-> Do you think he will take a cheque post-dated for 2006 on my behalf?

yak!! :D

YakMan,

I wouldn't do this for just anybody. It wasn't that hard to track YGMN down. He has left too many clues in his posts to ignore the obvious. Maybe it's the Atlantic Time Zone thing or something.

Try him at;

522 Bourbon St
New Orleans, LA 70130

(504) 581-7167 Only if you're really desparate. ( )

If he's not in, just charge to his account as the rest of us have always done. ;)

I've heard he's been busy beta testing some new cladding protector products.

I'm really getting to like my suggstion for transporting those tires back across the border. You always wanted luggage with wheels didn't you? Get the mud treads and you'll be the envy of the entire Island! Maybe even New Brunswick & Nova Scotia. :0:

Man if customs has whacked me for sending a t-shirt over the border they'd probably shoot people over a set of tires.

OK, here's the skinny.
I am now the proud owner of a second set of 20" chromes. My first set are Epic Blix and a few of you are familiar with them. I'm running Yoko AVS 295/45/20. Now this is a real good tire for speed and corners, but are a complete w/o with snow. With the power I have to the back end even wet pavement can present a problem. I spin real easy.
So, while my plan was to get a set of 22's and then put winter tires on the 20's it did not come out that way :E: Maybe for the best. I have a set of D'vinci 20" Rocketss on the way to me.
So, tires required. Always wanted the Falkens. I let the dealership pick out the Yoko's on my behalf, MISTAKE.
All the prices were coming in around the amount you were getting, around $450.
Then I found these guys:
www.vulcantire.com
They are selling the 295/50/20 04's for $211 and the 01's for $209, plus shipping. In my case here in Alberta the shipping was $188. Might be a little more for you, but still net/net a lot less than we are looking at.

If you want to wait for a few days (October 9th) I should have the tires and I can confirm that all worked out OK.

when you replied you changed the thread title......this is what changed it for those who clicked on the reply button....try not to change the title..as then it makes for future searching and such a real PIA......

HTH

Now what do you want for a title?

Well, to wrap up this little story.....
I don't have the tires as yet, but they have crossed the boarder and given that they are about 14 hours away by car I think I'll have them Monday or Tuesday. That is less than a week   (y)
I now have the total cost as well. So taking the price of tires, plus shipping (plus us exchange on both of these items), plus duty (becasue they are made in Japan), plus brokerage, plus taxes... it works out to $414 Canadain per tire. (see how fast a $211US tire can turn into an over $400CAN tire??)
That may sound high to the US guys, but I would not have been able to do any better than $500 with anybody else.
And Vulcan has been a treat to work with. So if you are looking for tires I would give these guys a shot. (y) (y)
