I am installing a 50 series flowmaster tomorrow, only changing the muffler. Will I feel the difference or is it just gonna be louder? I'm kinda new to modding out the avy but I'd like some real world results. Do I need to install an intake kit?

Welcome to the Family!! Nice first post!!

Its highly unlikely that you will feel any difference with just that mod, BUT ITS A GREAT BEGINNING!!!

(y) (y) and YES it will sound a LOT louder, especially under WOT!!

(y)

more air flow. (y)
... should see a bit more power.... ;D

gas mileage will probably stay the same :cautious:

be sure to give us a review ;D

You'll "feel" it, but it'll be mostly psychological. >:D

what txyank said (y) Don't expect too much, and you'll be pleasantly surprised (at least by the sound) :p

I did, however, feel a considerable difference by putting the Direct Hits ignition kit on my Av, and I know it's not psychological. There have been mixed reviews about changing plugs/wires/etc. but it sure did wake my truck up

If you read all of the threads on intakes, you will read some opinions that the stock airbox and clean filter really is pretty decent, but even still, it seems a common thing to want to change it.

Hope you enjoy your new exhaust note :)

Andy,

Like Rich and the others mentioned, the exhaust will only give you a louder truck. A better sounding truck to say the least!!!

For simple enhancements for performance, here are a few Ideas:

Air Intake - K&N FIPK or comparable

Computer Chip or Power Programmer- Hypertech or Diablo

Direct Hits Ignition or MSD Ignition

True Dual Exhaust cut behind the cats - #40 or #50 Flowmasters

This should give you not only a few more horse power, but a noticeable difference.

Hangman

Also, I am dropping a K&N filter into my stock airbox (with hole cut in bottom of it) today. I'll let you know if I "feel" anything. I'm not counting on it really.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but (dont say 20) what's the dif. between a 50 & 70 flowmaster?
50 is a little louder >:D and will create a little interior resonance :6:

I don't know if I feel anything but it does sound awesome! Thanks for all the info on this site. When I stumbled on to this site I was like (what in the hell is amber drls?) Well when I changed mine and did the full time mod I was hooked. In a matter of one week I did the all 4 mod, got a gm avy bugshield, ventvisors, 50 watt halogen backups, husky liners, Flowmaster 50 and changed my interior and puddle lights to red. I own a 2002 pewter avy Z71. This site is AWESOME!

All that and only two posts, LOL. Quality, not quantity (y) ;D

BTW, my K&N was on the delivery truck yesterday, but never made it to my house  Hope to have it today.

you can check out my review at "flowmaster with stock exsaust" something like that. Anyway, I've been getting 1/2 mpg more since I had my muffler changed out with a FM50. As far as how load the interior is, I'm gettting use to it, outside, sounds GREAT!

I have an drop in K&N filter only.

FYI...my FM50 got louder when I changed my plugs & wires >:D (y)

Rich,

Don't poke a hole in your stock airbox. The AV has one of the best stock boxes that there is for intake setups. Check out the cold air source through the inner fender.

Also, look at True Flow filters. The filtration aspects of this filter blows both the stock, and the Gauze type filters away (K&N, Volant, etc.) http://www.trueflow.com/

It's the newest, and the best, I yarded my entire Volant air intake setup off in favor of this setup, and it utilizes the stock air box because of it's good cold air source.

Lots of good independent info on their site.

too late, and too late :)

but thanks for posting the info anyways :0:

Oh, yeah, I forgot to comment about "feeling the difference"...

The only mod that I really "felt" a difference after doing was the Direct Hits...and the 0-60 three times trick, but that's not really a physical "mod", it's just kinda spooky :cautious:

However, the combination of Flowmaster, Direct Hits, the K&N drop-in, resetting the computer, and doing the 0-60 three times trick all combined definitely make for a better "feeling" drive >:D Definitely more peppy than stock, IMO. I've no Idea whether I actually have more power, but it sure seems like it.

Mike,

Why would you even think that.... ???

Not that I think I couldn't take Rich in a 0-60 Sprint, but I'm curious as to why you think He "could" take me... ???

And What's this Sir Hangin Botman Stuff... :-[ :6:

He *might* have been kidding :0: :p

Plus you are programmed, and your exterior mods make your av "look" faster than mine, so it probably is ;D

Can't speak for the Tinman, but I know that I'm totally kidding around :D

Rich,
