Wind/road Noise

Windows down...the aire around the windows is extremely turbulent and produces more noise than any vehicle I have ever owned...Any suggestions.

No real suggestions, just an observation. It would appear to me that the Av has all of the sleek aerodynamics of a brick. :rolleyes:

I does have some wind noise.

As for suggestions, other than closing the windows or cranking the tunes, you might want to consider the plastic window vent/deflectors. I don't have them so I don't know if they would make a difference. Anybody out there who has them, do they help with the noise?

I have the weathertech weatherflectors too and they seem to help a bit. They don't stick out as far as the GM or other brand "stick-on" kind though, so maybe those will help even more. I'm not sure though.

Also I've found that opening both the front AND the back windows helps reduce the noise and buffeting. And taking out the back window too helps the most. I don't know how opening the sunroof does on either of those situations though as I don't have one.

 
Yeah back windows do help, but I was getting a lot of air in the truck yesterday...enough to float my daughters car seat off the back seat, so I closed them up.

Radio...well I still have the Base POS model :( , I am getting an alpine soon so that will help and I will remove the HU and AMP, hopefully then I can turn it up without distortion and/or extreme lowend pressure that hurts. :cry:
 
If I take out the rear window, open the sunroof, and open all other windows I swear it is as quiet as with everything closed. I do have the complete set or deflectors.

Complete set? I assume that is all four doors. Do you also have the hood deflector? I have also heard of a deflector in front of the sunroof, do you have one of those?

I'm not trying to be petty or picky, I just see a little ambiguity here.

I'm not personally interested in the door deflectors, but I'm kind of interested in the sunroof deflector. If you have it, Does it help?

I have the GM deflector on all 4 doors. I can't compare pre and post install noise level as they were installed by dealer as part of he deal. But I have not noticed excessive noise with windows down. I usually will crack a rear window though.
 
I have noticed that having the driver side window down alone is loud. If you just crack the passenger side read window it actually gets pretty quiet and the amount of air entering the cab actually shifts from your face to what feels like your feet.

There've been other threads about sunroof wind problems which seem to usually be buffetting instead of noise. Three things seem to have helped those people.
  • Move the front crossbar on your roof rack (if you have one) back a ways.
  • Install a sunroof wind deflector.
  • Remove the stock pop-up wind deflector and bend the springs on the end so that it is pushed up with greater force when you open the sunroof.
All of those seemed to work to different degrees for different people. Search for that thread to get details.

I am surprised, as i find my Av to be amazingly quiet, (with the windows closed). I do have the hood and window deflectors, so that may help. Maybe my doors were just adjusted well at the factory.

Also, I do not believe that any vehicle is as quiet with the windows and sunroof all open as it is with them closed...the physics just does not work...
 
Yes, I have the hood, Sunroof, and all four window deflectors. See attached picture. Not only do they work for reducing wind noise, but I can drive in the rain while opening the windows a bit. Plus, on my Av they look good to me!

Driving slower will reduce wind noise. ;D

I do no think the window vents help any.......
 
The noise is very deafening?.Oh! Wait! I?m diving on the autobahn at 100+mph ;D ;D ;D

In all seriousness, I have the hood deflector and four window deflectors. I noticed more road noise after I had them installed. I?m willing to sacrifice the noise with good looks. Besides, if you get a Billet grill, you?ll have a small whistle to go with the wind noise

YGMN, are you following me ;D. Seriously driving slower actually reduces sound and increases fuel economy and lowers stress level. It is actually fun to see everyone else get pissed off that I am doing the speed limit. I think that was discussed before in the fuel economy area.

The sound is pretty loud, but also the air seems to make things move in the truck, the passanger seat belt was slapping the leather violently the other day and floating a car seat off of the rear seat surface. I have seen no compelling reason to get either the bug guard or the wind deflectors yet. I do not have the sun roof, I may do the bug guard for rock avoidance (if I believe that I believe anything) and looks. Well once the pollen is gone out come the rear window.

Don't forget, the only rocks you'll avoid with a bug guard are the ones that would have hit the front edge of your hood. It won't keep rocks that are heading toward your windshield from chipping your glass. Rocks are far more aerodynamic than bugs and cut straight through the updraft caused by the bug guard that lifts some of those pests over your winshield.
 
Yeah had one on my old truck all it did was get dirty. However rocks on the winshield are easier to deal with than rocks on the paint, and it does help with that a bit.

Wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone else has had a problem with a whistle. I hear it at 35-40 miles per hour, consistently. I have had all windows down and the sunroof open...no change. While the windows were down and I was driving at 35mph, I and my passenger removed the front weathertech window vents...no change. My next step is to remove the weathertech hood protector to see if that is it, but since it was mentioned that a billet grill may be a culprit ( I have the CW billet), I wanted to see if anyone else experiences the whistle.

Well I have a bug deflector, weather gaurds on all four doors and a billet grille - I have no whistle, as far as wind noise with the sound of my exhaust, the radio and the AC blower on Max I cant hear much of anything else! Sorry I cant be of more help - but I dont believe the billet grille adds any noise I am aware of.
 
I still have a quiet whistle noise that I hear from about 45mph up to almost 65mph. I haven't had a chance to remove the hood protector yet to see if that's the culprit.
 
Yep...I think that is going to need to be done, although even if it is the hood protector, I will still put it back on because of the look. I can deal with the whistle.

That reminds me of a funny story...when my wife and I were dating, and I didn't want to hear her passenger seat driving advice I would crank the stereo right in the middle of a sentence..... >:D

Went without for a while for that one.

Yeah, I like the look too. Though Dave02Z66 just put a chrome hood protector on his ride that looks nice too AND is more flexible than the stock ones. He said that his mirror vibration went away soon as he put it on. Something to keep an eye on anyway.
