windshield noise question

I have an aftermarket bugshield on my 2003 avalanche and have searched for info on the windshield noise.  I know that you need to use double sided tape to hold the windshield moulding in place and keep it from "fluttering".  My question is:

does the double sided tape stick to the hard plastic mouldings that are held on by the torx bit screws and hold the windshield in place, or does it go under the weatherstripping material?

I am almost 100% sure that it goes under the hard plastic moulding, but it looks like the previous owner used some on the weatherstripping.  When I do make the repairs I am going to take pics and post a thread because I could not find any threads with detailed pics.

thanks

Do a search.  I have an 05 with the GM bug sheild and the instructions tell you to use 3M tape under the weather stripping on both sieds of the windsheild.  I think I saw instuctions under the resources section of theis site.  I used the 3M on mine and have less noise than an Escalade.

I did read the instructions but the pictures aren't great.  I know the area where the tape goes, but I want to be sure that the tape goes under the hard plastic moulding that is exposed when the doors are shut.

The Molding comes off and the tape get stuck to  the windshield first then the molding is stuck on top.  Before you remove the molding mark the windshield were the  edge of the molding is with some masking tape or pencil. When you finish there should be no tape sticking out.  You can use a razor blade to trim it.

You are going way to far with this.  I had the same problem with my Sierra and my 03 AV.  I just squeezed a bead of clear silicon under the rubber strips on both sides of the windshield and never had another problem.

Can someone post a pic?

Something I need yo do as well but no directiosn came with the bug shield (or tape for that matter)
here's the instructions for the tape mod...  click

how wide does the double sided tape need to be?  how thick does it need to be?

The article on the website only says it has to be 40" long and you need 2 rolls.

thanks in advance

i dont know if this will help but when i put mine on it came with little round rubber dots looked like the the old candy dots but clear and you put them on the hood just under the shield and stops noise from shield hitting hood in wind

I'm having my windshield replaced on my '02 2500 and would like to get some of this tape for the guy while he's got it all pulled apart. Same question as other guy, how thick and how wide is that tape??

I'm with you. That's exactly what I did this weekend. So much easier to do. I lifted the molding little bit a bit at a time and gave a wipe with an alcohol dampened T-shirt first to clean the area a bit underneath.
Then I used masking tape to tape off the edges to keep it clean, lifted the molding a little at a time as I squeezed in the clear silicone, then pressed down all over the molding, removed the masking tape, and cleaned up a little on the window and molding with isoprpyl alcohol. Job done.
