Has anyone bought and installed a woodgrain dash kit that they have had good results with? Our Volvo has a
woodgrain dash and it really looks good. I want to break up some of that gray and black plastic that dominates the dash.

Thanks in advance,
Dino

Hi.
There was a thread on this way back. I think people have gotten good results, but there was some discussion on how the wood was treated (laminated, poly, ect).
I too am not too keen on all the grey plastic. I chose to get some of the GMC Denali parts which are the dash bezel and the window switch bezels (later). They are still plastic (at least the dash bezel is) but they have a gray woodgrain look, which I think will go nicely in my AV. The dash bezel is a complete replacement and is pretty in expensive and the window switch bezels are replacements too but are kinda expensive.
You can see these products being sold by one of our site sponsors at www.jpcustoms.com

Again you might search back 360 days or so for wood trim or something.

Hey Dino - we have a special club price on wood dashes in the store section from Dashesonline and people have been very happy with them. There are a number of threads on this topic and pictures - I'm sure people will jump in and tell you what they bought.

Putting in the kit is real easy. You have the clean the surfaces REAL GOOD and just use some patience but you can get it done in about an hour.

The Malt,

Please let me know when you have pictures of the Gray Burl. I too have a 2003 with the gray plastic. I've been looking for something a little less shocking than the brushed steel look and the carbon fiber look.

Thank,
Old Ski Bum

Hey Old Ski Bum, I wanted to brighten up my interior so I purchased the Cherry wood dash. Also I see now that it?s a 45 pcs. Kit but some of the pieces you won?t use because they give you pieces for with and without options. The Old Malt

A better shot of thr drivers side.

Malt,

Which kit did you get i.e. part number/type ???

I think yours looks like the Rosewood but I've found it really hard to tell from the pictures? Also is the kit you purchased the vinyl or did you purchase some replacement parts(dash etc.)?

Thanks for any help I've been in limbo with my decision on this since September of 2002 :cautious: Yours has the look of the molded stuff so I thik I'd like to go with the same Company/part number.

Also, did you install and any tips on the install ???

Peace (y)

Thanks guys for the great help.
Malts pictures are extra, extra helpful in deciding what to do on this. I also like supporting a sponsor to this great web site.

I too, Malt would like to know what nuber of the kit you got. I definetly want the quanity of woodwork that you have installed. I like the color of your dash, but I sure do not see the "Cherry color" that you have. Maybe its time for glasses!!!!

Thanks guys,
Dino Falabrino

Dino, The kit number is Sherwood Kit # 1471 and your right it is "Rosewood" not Cherry. But they have other styles if you go to their web site and click on materials. The dash is different between the '02' and '03' and Sherwood was the only one at that time that had it for the 2003.

Hey Walt,
Thanks a million again. I hate to ask one more question but was yours the "Classic Rosewood" or "Simulated wood" It would help in my choice as I can then see your picture and see how close Sherwoods color chart is on accuracy.

Thanks again,
Dino Falabrino

Just one thing. I think everyone posting on the thread in the last little bit has bucket seats, but if you have the 40/20/40 seat a word of caution. Many of the parts will not fit as the console, part of the dash, overhead, and seat controls are different.
The sherwood rep was nice enough to send me a partial kit that I can cover most of the dash with and the door controls

Mine is the Classic Rosewood. It is darker than the sample on their web page possibly from the heavy urethane finish. Also my kit did inclued the steering wheel pieces but I didn't care to put them on along with some other pieces. You will need warm weather or a hair dryer to install the kit properly.
