Well, seeing that I am just 3 weeks away from leaving Labrador City, Newfoundland on my 2 day drive for the NIAGARA FALLS GTG *HINT* *HINT* (have you REGISTERED YET!! www.avscruiseniagara.com  ) I am posting some info for my fellow AV Brothers and Sisters, especially the ONtario chapter since they are having a mini-GTG for KImmey and I en route to the NF GTG !!! (y)

We will depart Labrador City on Tuesday, June 1st @6am, and drive to St. Anne de Beaupre (approx. 12-14 hours) where we will overnight.

We will depart Beaupre early Wednesday morning , and drive to BOWMANVILLE, ONtario; here we will stay overnight.
-----> There will be a supper with some of the Ontario Chapter inserted here!! Dragon, DiChris, Stan, thank you for your hospitatlity!!

We will depart Bowmanville, ONtario, on Thursday where we will convoy (3 Av's I think, maybe more!) towards NIagara Falls.
-----> There will be an approx. 1 to 1.5 Hour STOPOVER at RACE TECH AUTO on the way, so that JOE can install my TAIL LIGHT GUARDS and have a mini-GTG there as well!!

From there, we will CONTINUE to NIagara Falls for the OFFICIAL GTG !!! (y) (y)

HOPING to meet some of you THURSDAY EVENING at the PRE-SOCIAL !! :D :D

I Will update the info as it gets closer, if needed!!
My CELL phone number will also be posted here for my fellow AV brothers before I leave!! (y)

OH I FORGOT!! I WILL be bringing 2 "3.5 Lb'ers!! " of NEWFIE BLINDNESS SCREECH with me ....
..... ALL of the adults are welcome to a taste, as I suspect most of you have never HAD NEWFIE SCREECH before, and it is legendary!!
.... there may not be a lot of QUANTITY to share amongst my new Friends and Family, but I assure you that every shot given will have a dose of NEWFIE  involved!! (y) (y)

EDITED:: THE FOLLOWING IS A STORY OF HOW IT CAME TO BE !!

The Screech Story

Before liquor boards were created, Jamaican rum was a popular part of a Newfoundlanders diet, with salt fish traded to the West in exchange for rum. When the Government took control of the liquor business, it began selling the rum in unlabelled bottles. The product remained nameless until the American servicemen came to the Island during World War II.

The story goes like this: The commanding officer of the original detachment was having his first taste. The Newfoundlander downed his drink in one gulp, so the American did the same.. The American?s blood-curdling scream attracted alot of attention. An American sergeant who heard the sound from outside pounded his fist on the door and demanded to know, "What the cripes was that ungodly screech?"

The Newfoundlander replied in true Newfie form, "Da Screech? ?Tis the rum, me son."
As all embarassing moments do, the incident spread, and the soldiers were determined to try this mysterious "Screech" to see what all of the fuss was about. The drink was soon their favorite.

TheLiquor Board adopted the name and began labeling the dark rum Newfoundland Screech.

(y) (y) (y) END of history lesson!! ;)

I'd very much like to try to join you folks in Bowmanville on Wed June 2, if my wife isn't working, as I need someone in the AV to keep me awake anytime I drive more than 50km :cautious:

Do we have an anticipated time when this supper GTG may commence? Restaurant name / address?

Oh. Just kidding about falling asleep after 50km ;D Really >:D zzzzZZZZ

Grandpa, Chris is taking care of the supper plans.... if all goes well, Kimmey and I should arrive in Bowmanville in the 5-6pm range..... if not earlier. As times gets closer, I will advise as best as possible! (y)

Grandpa .. Dinner will be what ever time... But you can come when you want earlier I mean .. I am thinking it would be easy to just meet at the hotel that Yak & Kim are staying at as it is right beside the 401 at the bowmanville off ramp.. I believe we are going to go to the marina restraunt for dinner which is 5 min away from there.. Chris and i have spoke briefly and i believe this is the tenative plan for dinner.... We figured it would be best to do something close to the hotel as our newfie friend will have put on many KM's by then and deserves to just be able to kick back and relax with the least amount of fuss. I believe there is a pub in the Howard Johnstons so we could congregate there and go from there to the marina!!!I will have to flee around 9:30 or so to build some 20's for the texas trucks! We will keep you and any others intested in comming to the "Officall Yak and Kim Ontario Reception Dinner" informed of the plan as things get closer >:D

close, wasnt a pow camp it was a camp to train ally personell in spy/ espionage. I was located in Oshawa actually right on the Oshawa / whitby boarder, right on the shore of lake Ontario. The site is vacant now with the exception of a small plaque to identify its importance to the ally movement. POW(coincidental name)

Hate to burst your bubble, but you're wrong... The old boys school at the north east end of Bowmanville did house some German soldiers during the war... It was not a war prison as such, but they did house some captured German soldiers there.. Even for the locals, most people never really drive by there! A little to far out of the way for a normal drive.

Now back to POW!!! GO BACK TO WORK!!!!! >:D Your lunch break ended 4 minutes ago!

I'll TELL the GENERAL!! HEHEHEHEHE! Only if he buys me a coffee! >:D

Heck, he drives an Impala! Can't talk to Impala owners! ;D :B:

Uncle WIlly , thanks for the offer!!  But Kimmey does not like to impose on others.... other than that, I would take you up on it!! (y)

Hi Yak,

nAV and I have talked about your return trip and would like to suggest/offer to you to make a stop over in Ottawa and stay with either one of us (maybe me, I have a pool and hot tub >:D :0:) nAV has a 36" TV in his basement. :D:
This way it would give you a few hours on the road, towards home, and a stay over to rest before the final push to Labrador City.

BTW. you would not impose on either one of us ;)

hehe... Bryker,

Maybe I'll put up the ante.. and offer Yak a pleasant stay at the cottage/second house/Mountain retreat. With a gorgeous mountain view/ stream running below and picturesque skyline.

Not to mention the opportunity to go for a leasure stroll and bathe in a pristine clear PRIVATE LAKE. Unfortunately, we'll have to make do with the 27 inch TV and put the mattresses on the new floor .. but hey..it's being renovated... and we'll have to rough-it. ;D

NAV

P.S. Bryker, don't bring the boat into this discussion... hehe ;D

Hi maduckie,

Cottage is north of Buckingham (Quebec side). I take the ferry at Cumberland to Masson-Angers.. then North on the 309 about 15 miles. I'm on a private stretch of land 400 acres of woods in the Gatineau mountains. There are a total of 20 cottages on that 400 acres and 3 lakes. Each cottage owner has their own land.. mine is a little over an acre. I'm not right on the lake (I prefer the serenity of my location). I can walk to the all 3 lakes..but I have a spot reserved for myself and another cottage (50 feet by 200 feet) on the lake. where I put my boat and canoe and take swims. The name of our biggest lake is Trout lake. The total distance from my home to my cottage is 35 km.

Looks like Centennial lake is closer to Pembroke.. but hey.. it's a big world... Yes we are neighbours ;D
