I have seen the Unicorn my brothers....and damn she was a pretty sight. This was the mythological 2003 yellow Avalanche. (y)

It was at the car unloading docks at this railroad shipping yard in Houston. The shipping yard is on the northbound side of the Hardy Toll Road between Beltway 8 and FM1960. This is the lot where most of the new cars for Houston come in at. There are thousands of new cars sitting on these huge lots.

My eyes almost bugged out of my skull when I saw it. It was sitting by its lonesome in the middle of some other new '03 AV's. Its on the north end of the lots, almost to the end of the property. I'm assuming its heading to a dealership as a promo because it was the only one I saw. Naturally I didn't have my camera with me. :8:

I'd appreciate it if somebody in Houston with a camera could drive by and snap a photo to prove I'm not nuts. ;D

HA!!!!!!!!!!!

TOLD YA SO!!!!!! ;D

Thanks Byron.

I'm glad its still there. I'll swing by there today and snap some shots!

Doh! I read your post the other day. I guess I didn't read it closely enough. I didn't realize we were talking about the same truck. But based on what I just reread...it HAS to be the same AV!!! Go get some photos!!!

I'm out the door! I'm going to see if they will let me into the complex and take some up-close pictures as well. :0: Wish me luck!

If they go on sale in January hitting the distribution channels now makes sense - not much going to happen as far as shipping etc. in a couple of weeks. Probably one that someone ordered. The WBH Avalanches can't be that far behind...

Someone posted that you could order the WBH Avalanches now. I think it was early last week they became available.

Good luck!!! But I really doubt they will let you in the complex. Hell...I don't know HOW TO GET TO THE COMPLEX!!!! Its not accessible from the toll road.

Good luck! At least you might get one picture from a distance.

I'm back! And I have some pics! ;D Byron, your right. I had a hard time just finding the road to get to the complex and that whole area was railroad private property. This was as close as I could get. You can't make it out in the pic, but it is a Z-71.

Good Work 007 :)

The AV looks nice - I want Yellow

Based on the fact it has a sunroof, running boards and OnStar - it's probably a loaded Z-71... ;D

Is it just me or does that yellow look a bit light? I was thinking they were going to use the same yellow from the Monte Carlo/Cavalier. Hopefully it's just the lighting otherwise my bubble has been burst!

I like it (y)

Now that color would really make it stand out in a parking lot (as if the Av needs to stand out anymore lol)

I'm not convinced that's a 2003. ?The cladding doesn't look very dark. ?I could be wrong.

Also for a promo vehicle, it's missing alot of options. No XM, no Roof Rack, no Brush Guard (not so suprising).

It's just sortof odd.

Cool shot ?Black_Magic that AV looks nice.

(wiping drool off chin) How 'bout that color?

I guess I pictured it with painted matching cladding, kinda' SS looking, but hey, that'll do.

Good job Black Magic! "dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun doody-do doody-do" that would be sung Mission Impossible style  . . . sorry if i missed a "dun" in there somewhere.

Hmmmm. That cladding looks a bit light in color. It looks closer to a 2002 than 2003. Then again that yellow is extraordinarily bright. Maybe the whole picture is light?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure if its a '02 or '03 now. However its sitting with all the other new Chevys. So I just don't know.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. The cladding just looks light. THe whole picture is kind of bright though...so maybe its just washed out? It almost looks like it's got '02 cladding.

Yeah, the cladding does look bright, but I think it is because I had the zoom maxed out. Here is a more distant shot and the cladding does look darker.

Yeah....that helps a little. I'm not sure. I wish there had been another AV parked next to it.

I talked to T***** N********* from GM last week he is the Avalanche Marketing Manager. He told me that they built about 200 Yellow Avalanche's about a month ago. He said they were test vehicles. They were all built with the 2002 cladding. ?He told me production will start in late December, and will be very slow for the first month. He told me the plan is only 2 Yellow Av's ?for the 1st and 2nd week of production. Only 4 Yellow Av's for the 3rd and 4th week, and free flow will begin at the 5th week of production. If this is true that sucks ?:8: ?I wont have my Yellow AV until Mrach ?:8:

200 yellow "test" Avalanches with the 2002 cladding in one month? ...and only a handfull durring first month of true production? Something doesn't make sense. ??? Maybe we did see a true "unicorn" of Avalanches.

So, what are they going to do with the "new" 2002 yellow AV's? If they plan on selling them I want END OF YEAR MODEL CLOSE-OUT SPECIALS!!!!! >:D

Eh? That just doesn't make sense. Why...if they have been selling 2003's since like August or September would they suddenly step back and create 200 yellow Text avalanches with the 2002 cladding.

Something doesn't add up here.

It does not any sense to me either. That's what the man said. He told me they had to step up production a month earlier because they were getting a ton of calls for the Yellow Av. So if people are calling and asking for something why is production so slow ? It is crazy. I do not understand. If anyone wants T***** N********* phone # let me know. ?:B:

Hmmm... this could mean trouble. That yellow is pretty cool!
