Z 71 Or Standard 4WD

I personaly would buy the Z71 if I were geting a new one, because with the Z71 you get the Skid plate, and locking differential and around here those are good things to have I also like the ride of the suspenison and the 17" wheels are great the rubber floor mats are great for clean up you just pull them out and hose them down. so there you have it my two cents

There are threads that deal with this topic in some depth. I think the general conclusion was that you more than get your monies worth when you get the Z71. The ride alone is worth the extra cash.

We didn't buy the AV so we could resell it. We bought it because the Z71 was the best vehicle out there to fit our needs. As a matter of fact, it was the only vehicle that met and surpassed all of our requirements in a vehicle at the time.

I guess I'm going to go it alone on this one - but I could find absolutely NOTHING that justified spending an extra 3K on the thing.
I don't have the need for the skid plate and I can get rubber mats for about $20.
Maybe I have too much confidence in my 4X4 but I can't think of anything a Z-71 can do that it can't.

IMHO

Blue thunder,
How are you coming up with the Z71 package an extra $3,000 over the standard 4x4. It's only $835.

For the additional $835 you get:
"Premium Off-road Suspension Package with rear locking differential, specially tuned shock absorbers, Traction Assist and aggressive rubber floor mats with yellow Chevy bowtie and trim decal
17-inch aluminum wheels"

With all due respect, there is some value to the Z71 option, maybe not enough for all to buy it, but certainly SOME value!

and...FYI...the shocks are Monotube gas shocks (much larger valves than twin tube shocks. These stay cooler and last longer on bumpy roads and washboard roads.

They probably cost $100 each to replace (Bilsteins).

I have ruined many twintube shocks on regular dirt roads and really believe in the monotube shocks.

Now this may not be enough reason to buy the Z71 but added to the locking diff, etc. etc. it becomes more of a decsion.

Just my humble opinion.

Truthfully, the only off-roading I plan on doing is turning into my gravel driveway so I never bothered to price the Z-71 package.
I read on one of the posts here (different subject header - don't remember which one) where someone had said the Z-71 package was 3k. If it is only 835 additional, then perhaps it is worth it.

Sorry for the confusion - I guess I should investigate things I read a little further.

Traction assist is only found on the two-wheel drive Z66. The North Face Edition is around a $3000 option. It includes the Z71 stuff and leather seating, among other things.

Which would yall buy and why

Only you can make that decision.

Determine if it is really something you want. You will have to live with it or with out it for as long as you own that truck.

I've got an 03 z71. I haven't ever even seen one that is not a z71 or Northface in my area at a dealer.

Here's what the z71 includes:

Off-Road Suspension Package :

? Solar-Ray Deep Tinted Back Glass .
? Heavy-Duty Rear Locking Differential .
? Tires: P265/70R17 On/Off Road BW
Heavy Duty tires with 265mm width, 17.0" rim .
? Skid Plate Package .
? High Capacity Air Cleaner .
? Wheels: 17 in. x 7 in. Aluminum (4) .
? Rubberized Vinyl Floormats .
? Includes 1.81 inch (46 mm) shocks, off-road jounce bumpers, specially tuned springs and shocks and Z71 decal on rear quarter panels..

And it is only ~$835. I got it and I think it is a totally great value. I think the wheels/tires and tinted glass alone make the truck look so much better, even if it never goes off road!!

I totally agree earthquakin.

Figure the price to upgrade to nice 17" aluminum rims and tires, & upgraded blistein shocks would be at least that much.

Although we have dispelled the "high capacity air cleaner" myth. We all have the same one...
