It seems to me that those of us that have done the air box mod need a (for lack of a better word) a plug for off-roading.? Does anyone have an idea for something that could used on a mudding weekend and left out for street driving?

Credit this to bonedog, but run the pipe in PVC and install a valve in the pipe so when you go off road... twist the handle and it is plugged.... back on the road... open it back up :)

My "cold air" setup is just a 4" hole in the bottom of my air box with a rubber 3" to 4" adapter sticking down through the bottom of it.  I had to flex the inlet (4") end of it into a slight oval to fit.  There isn't any way to use pvc pipe and a valve anywhere, although that is a hell of a cool of an idea.
I've off-roaded the truck several times and checked the air filter after.  So far, I've never got more than a little splash of water on the air filter and no water through it but if I had a "plug" I would stop-up the cold air hole if there was a chance that I might find one of those "it didn't look that deep" holes.

I wish I whould have read the "valve post" sooner. lol.  The final diagnosis, broken piston rod :E:, compression on #7 cylinder=0 :3:, no long block available for the 5.3.  New engine is going in and I'll have it back by next Thursday.... hopefully.

If a rod breaks, the crank index is likely shot out of tolerance too. Better to get the new engine anyway.

I hope they drop the trans pan and see if any water is in there too..

So, I guess we'll know on the 25th!

Good Luck, Carl!
