OMG that was easy!? I prepared the diodes last night, and it took me all of 5 minutes to complete this mod.? Thanks for the easy to follow instructions.

Avrohead

Great job guys!  :B:

Just did mine (the wife's) this morning before church. Extremely easy and I even did the 5th diode for the fulltime fog lights.

First pic is low beams and the second is high beams.

Niiice!  That looks mean!

;D

I just did this .... !!! VERY easy ....

I did Diodes 1, 3 and 4 ... I didn't do Diodes 2 b/c I didn't want my lows while the highs were on ... just my preference ...

I do have a tip about remembering what side the black stripe is on ...

When you take the Diodes out of the package ... keep the red tape on the end of the Diode ... take the white tape off and slip the heat shrink on by that side ... DONT remove the red tape until your ready to install the Diode. ... ... this also gives you a hold while using your lighter to shrink the tubing ...

Good point. Wished I had thought of that.

Nice idea!!  enjoy the mod!

Holy b Jesus I'm blinded by all the lights just did 5 diode set up holy cow it works ...my question tho is how long will the drl sockets last before they melt from being on all the time...what a weekend did my hotchkis trailing arms , finshed up with my 06 Earnhardt SS cluster and know the 5 diode set up yippee >:D >:D :B:

I have the FTDRLs and haven't had any issues with heat.  It might get warmer in there when you run your fogs too (for cladded trucks, since they share the same housing), but it shouldn't cause any trouble.

I almost always have my fogs on when I turn on my lights (meaning DRLs and fogs are on simultaneously) and I haven't had any issues at all.

Completed this Sat. and it worked great except for one question. Why do my DRL's turn off when I switch the headlight knob to parking lights? Shouldn't I have all 4 ambers at that point? Everything else works exactly as described.

hmmm... I'm actually not sure about this one!  I will have to check.

I also noticed that if my auto headlights come on and I turn them off (by pushing the knob over to the left circle past "auto") the drls also shut off.  Guess thats the way to go into stealth mode...

because the diode goes to the low beam relay. when the light switch is tured on to the parking light position the low beams go off and the power going through that relay is off. hence no power going through the diode to turn on the drl's.

Cant believe how easy this was i was looking at painless wiring for hi and low beam but didn't like splicing wires

Yep, splicing is for chumps!

That makes sense, thanks for the reply. I know before I added the diodes, my drl's would be on and if I turned my switch to the parking light position I would have both parking lights and drl's. To override the drl's I could simply turn the knob to headlights and then back to parking lights and this would leave me with only my parking lights on. This no longer works even though the drl's will light if I just leave switch in the auto position.

yeah something like that LOL. your drls should work if its day light and your switch is in auto and the gear selector is in drive or the light switch is in auto and its dark enough to turn on your head lights or you manualy turn the head light switch to the head lights on position. I guess I could have also said they will only shut off if the light switch is in the parking light position, or your do the kill auto lights left turn on the light switch.
hope that made some kind of sense. LOL

Vertabatt,

Thanks a million for your post! Very clear, great pics, and a cheap, no cutting fix!

Really appreciate the time you took to post this.

Welcome to the club Jim.

Whereabouts in Iowa are you located?

Thanks. We're in the western part of Dubuque county (on the Mississippi side in about the middle of the state from a north-south perspective). About midway timewise between cedar rapids and davenport.

Was just curious. I am down here in Central Missouri midway between Kansas City and Columbia just off of highway 70. I am up towards Carrrollton and Chilicothe, Missouri delivering for Lowe's on occasion. If you're ever down this way give us a yell and we can meet up.

There's a Lowes' here in town, do you ever make it up into Iowa? LOL, I drove to California at the beginning of the year, but haven't gone on any big road trips since.

Here is a new copy of the diagram showing fuse diode placement, maybe it's just my printer but the copy from
ChevyTruckWorld is getting hard to read...

with all the diodes going to the headlamp h1 fuse is that to much for that fuse? My friend went to Pa this weekend and on her trip home monday night she lost the headlights but driving/fog lights worked she removed the diodes in the rain and said that the headlamp h1 fuse was making a noise all lights  are working again just wondering if this happend to any one else
