-Bryan Mac

But seriously... this is a great mod for club members!  Night ambers = way totally badass!

Way to go Bryan! Keep the mod comin!

Well, I've had the bag with diodes from Radio Shack in the truck for a few weeks now. Ended up with a few minutes to spare two days ago, so I popped the hood up and plugged in the diodes. DAMN IT MAN!  Why didn't I do this weeks ago?  While this is one of the easiest, it's still one of the best mods out there.  I can see for miles and miles and miles and milesssss, OH YEA!!!

I swear, everytime I click them on I hear some kind of a Star Wars sound.
Varrrrummmmmmmmmmmm, lol.
I just waiting for the next ass to hit me with his brights. MUWAAAHAHAHAHAHA

Guys, I am definitely going to try this, been curious about it since I saw someone selling a kit on ebay.  Wish I would have paid attention to see what that "kit" had in it.  My question is if I install some of the brighter Xenon lights, will it not be too bright with dims and driving lights on?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-04-05-Chevy-Avalanche-High-Beam-Conversion-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQitemZ8061940476QQrdZ1

Found this one on ebay.

Kit?  What kit?  All you need is three diodes.  Hell, I got mine from Radio Shack.  Oh, and as far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as to bright.

I have bought 3 different kits before I got my act together and did it using this method.

Here is what I found out there:

1) A kit from stylin concepts ($50, HUGE RIP!) that involved tapping into your stock wires using those T taps (which generally don't last well) and mounting a box under your hood.  The directions were usable, but it would have worked.... just more difficult than the diode method.  The kit is for All-On-High, no fogs or DRLs.

2) Another kit ($25 or so) that was basically the same exact idea... tap stock wires to get All-On-High (again, no fogs or DRLs)

3) I bought a kit with 3 diodes on eBay that had some so-so directions, but included diodes that were kinda fat and hard to fit.  Also, these directions (with no pics) only had 3 diodes involved (instead of the 4 here) because they did not mention Fogs-On-High.

You should definitely use the directions in this thread... it will save you time and money

You have me on board, just got back in town and I am going to Radio Shack in the morning.  Just want to ask, Can I still turn my fogs on with just dim only?  I live in the country and on the highways into town I keep my fogs on to see deer next to the road.  Obviously without traffic I will light up the sky but with traffic I still want my fogs when I'm on pavement.  Didn't know if the bypass on the relays will take away my fogs until I have my brights on.  Thanks for your comments, this 06 is my baby and I don't want the front  end covered with venison.
By the way, how in the crap do you post a link?  I obviously did it wrong earlier.

Put this part: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors... inside the [ url ] braces, adding an = sign after url, thusly: [ url=http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...], then close the tag with [ /url ]. (Take out the spaces between the open and close brace also.)

It'll look like this when you're done.

Your fog button will still work when your low beams are on (meaning you can toggle the fogs on and off using your swtich).  HOWEVER, with high beams your fogs will be on and the fog switch light will come on, but you cannot deactivate the fogs (so basically highs on = fogs on too).

I didn't like the sound of not being able to control my fogs on high at first... then I realized that if I have my highs on chances are I NEED as much light as I can get.  I like it now!  :D

One more thing.  If you have never messed with your truck, like I had not, then you will need to know the fuse box they are talking about is the one under the hood on the driver side.  Just pop the top off and you'll see it looks just like the picks here show
I stared at mine inside thinking, WTF????  This don't look anything like the thread shows! lol, DOH!!
Believe me, I called myself a dumb a$$ too.

Thanks Vertabatt.  Hooked it up yesterday, works fine.  The shrinkwrap definitely took longer cutting than the installation - very fast and easy.  I bought the clear shrinkwrap in the varietypack at Radio Shack.  The smallest wrap in the clear is thicker than the black so the inside diameter is smaller and will not fit over the diode.  I put the small on the wire and shrunk it, then I put the next largest over the entire diode.  Made it a little thicker but works great.  I did notice in his pick that the wire was slightly explosed on one of his from the pressure of the relay, so hopefully this won't happen with the extra coating.  I had to leave town so was only able to see the lights in the daytime, but can't wait till tomorrow to get back home and take the AV out of the garage and onto the highway.  Very bright in the sun, so I can only imagine what it will do in the dark.

just finished this mod . really great instructions, i already had the full time drl so it took me allof 10 minutes.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear about everyone's success with this mod.

I will have plenty of diodes and shrink wrap at Southern Nights GTG.... I'll do the mod for whoever wants it!

Thanks for the detailed instructions vertabatt. After I had the diodes heat-shrinked, took all of 10 minutes with your guide. Mounting my MagLite today and then on to designing and making my custom bowtie and ordering/installing my Bull Bar. I don't think I'll be able to stop!

vertabatt,

Thanks for providing the detailed instructions for these mods.  I did the All-4-on-high and FTDRL's.  You made it easy for this noob who's fairly mechanically inclined but who was a little leery about fiddling with his brand new truck's electrical system.

Thanks again,

5

Shouldn't these instructions be a sticky?

Got my FTDRL's and All-4-on-High done this weekend!?

vertabatt - Thanks again for these most excellent and clear directions on how to get this mod done! You 'da man!!

ok so its rainy outside and i just decided to do this mod.  finally! but i have already come across one problem.  i dont know how to disconnect my negative battery lead.  is that the wire directly connected to the negative bolt on the battery?  if so, do you have to unbolt it off? cause its on tight.  also if so, why is it still on in the other pictures?  and lastly, is it neccessary or just a precaution?  can i still do th mod as long as im careful with the battery connected? thanks.

ps - sorry for the stupid questions, im just a newb :-[
