So, did you ever not close the tailgate quite all the way and have it slam open while you were driving down the road?

Yep...scares the heck out of ya!

Can't say as I've done this yet. I'm too anal retentive with that tailgate cuz of that recall. I know its a slim chance of happening, but I get fired up when friends open the tailgate and let it fall on its on rather than easing it down.

1 time only...I learned... :3:

I've had it happen more than once ~ the first time it happened I was like, "CRIPES WHAT JUST FELL OFF OF MY TRUCK!"

Pulled over blocking a lane in heavy traffic because by the noise and vibration I was convinced that something, SOMETHING bad had really happened. Was relieved that it was only the tailgate. I now slam the bejesuz out of it.

happend on my old av , just got it when it happend on the freeway , always make sure it is fine now .

My '02 that I had did that the second day I owned it, I thought someone hit me in the back

Happenned to me once in my old truck, I learned from it so it has never happenned in the AV. Driving off with it down is another story . . .

the first time it happened was at a stop sign as i started to pull away, i checked the rearview mirror expecting to se a ricer back there steaming. much to my relief it was just the tailgate. It gets slammed with both hands now

nope.... though I did slam it closed without making sure the panel latches were fully closed. In that split second before it made contact, I saw that glow in the dark tab sticking straight back...

The tailgate bounced off the tab back into my hands... the tab split in half and fell down onto the bed. :cautious:

Happened to me a few months after having my truck. I thought I had run over something. Then last Feb. it happened 3 times while on a trip to Colorado with my bed packed FULL of stuff. Never had anything fall out even doing highway speeds. It turned out there was a problem with my latch so I had it repaired under warranty. No problems now.

It's happened to me as well.

I was behind a friends Av on the highway when his tailgate opened, cables broke and the tailgate came off. I'm sorry to say I ran it over doing 70 MPH. Ever see a run over tailgate? >:D

Nope. I read about it so much here for a year before purchase that I slam the heck out of it.

Of course, now I don't even open the tailgate for fear that my cables will break

Once! Now everyone thinks I am mad the way I slam that tailgate!

Never happened to me. However  There was once when my better half placed some shopping items in the rear, and once underway, the tailgate dropped :C: Fortunate that nothing slid out, thank goodness for the non slip mat (y)

That has happened to me back in late 2001, since then never happened again since I recheck it sometimes to be sure it is closed.

Happened to me July '01 and it was so loud I jumped, I was looking around to see who crashed into a tree or something. This pretty blonde in a car near me noticed the look on my face and pointed at my tailgate but I couldn't figure out what she was pointing at. She kept pointing at me so I stopped, boy did I feel stupid. :2:

I?ve had it slip out of my hand before and slam down, but never while driving

Nope...I was warned at the dealership to treat it like a truck, and not to baby it when you close the tailgate (y)

Hasn't happened with me but it did happen with the oldest. Man did I give him an earful after that!
